my 2nd started sucking his thumb at 3 months old, when he turned 5 months old I would put baby gloves on his hands and give him the pacifier, he got used to it, and stopped sucking his thumb, now he looks for the pacifier,. Generally though it's not bad at that age, only when they are about 2-3 years old it starts becoming bad, but it was easy confusing my son, so that was good. it's easy to confuse a baby into forgetting one thing and getting used to another, try it, but I wouldn't suggest quite yet, wait a few more months. good luck

My daughter sucks her thumb and does not take a pacifier. Is it really worth the battle? It is true that you can't take the thumb away like a pacifier. But think of it this way: once your baby is a little older and you are ready to wean her from sucking her thumb (or pacifier) there's one secret weapon for weaning that only moms of thumbsuckers have: Given the choice to suck her thumb or play with play doh/help you bake cookies/make a sand castle/do a puzzle/color a picture/play with legos/or play with ANY toy..which do you think she'll choose? Once she's bigger, you can keep her hands busy and distract her, but when she's little..indulge her :)

Do you have learning difficulties or something? She isn't screaming because she's mad, she's probably scared of you or unhappy because she doesn't want the pacifier. Your baby is 2 months old & she doesn't understand what NO! means & she also doesn't understand why you are telling her off & stuffing that bit of rubber in her mouth. She is doing what babies are supposed to do. You should be glad she doesn't want a pacifier, take it off her & let her use her thumb like all normal babies do.

My little girl preferred her thumb over the pacifier at that age. She is now 3 and still sucks her thumb. She only does it when she is tired. I really don't think it is a big deal.

Two months old and already smarter than mommy!! Only kidding. You have a very advanced child, my daughter did the same thing, so I put it up, and she was fine. My own personal opinion on the pacifier matter is, pacifiers are nothing more than babysitters . If she don't need one, it means that you are doing your job as a good mother and your giving her everything she needs, she doesn't NEED it! She sounds perfectly fine to me. I still see 3 and 4 year olds sucking on them darn things, it makes me sick.

My daughter is 3 and ducks get thumb, has since she was a baby. Both of my daughters never took a pacifier heard that is a lot harder to wean than the thumb, which I am thankful for! But my daughter sucking her soothes her and is a comfort thing and she only does it when she is tired. Let your daughter suck her thumb, it soothes her, it is fine.

Sweetie, you are so backwards.
Hand chewing is soooo common and much easier to wean than a pacifier. My baby has a pacifier (she is 10 months) and is so dependant that I wish I never gve it to her. Don't tell her no. Allow her to suck on her hand and don't give the pacifier unless she desperately needs it.

HAHA! I wish my son sucked his thumb...trust me the pacifier is worse because when they lose it in the middle of the night guess who has to find it? They can always find their thumb! My son luckily only wants his paci when he is not feeling well due to teething but on those nights I constantly run back and forth putting it in his mouth. Don't force the pacifier issue. Some babies just don't like them or want them.

Relax, thumb sucking isn't the end of the world. She uses the thumb to satisfy the natural sucking, or just to sooth herself. Look at it this way, you'll never have to look for the nuck. Most kids stop sucking their fingers or thumb when they have learned other ways to sooth themselves. How can you tell an infant NO. The things they do at this point are instinct, they have no control at this point. Both my kids sucked their digits and quit by the time they were 1 year old...

you should lick her thumb then lick the pacifier and see which one you think tastes better. im sure the salt on her skin is the main reason that she likes to suck her thumb. a pacifier just tastes like rubber. let her suck her thumb there isnt anything wrong with it. p.s. i know im not a mom...duh.. i have 3 nephews and 3 nieces.
