My 9 month old son was choking 2 days ago. After trying to pat his back, and doing the infant heimlich--i put my finger in the back area of mouth and he gagged and coughed up a wrapper. I felt terrible and took him to our pediatrician---I had slightly scraped the back of his throat and it had a few drops of blood. His pediatrician told me everything else is fine. He has been fussy since---not taking naps as well or wanting to go in crib at night. He also hasn't wanted a bottle---but will eat baby food. He did drink some out of a sippy cup today. Of course if this continues I will take him back to doctor. I just wonder if anyone else has had this happen===doctor said throat may be tender. He also may be ready to take fewer bottles. It was his 7 year old sister who left candy wrapper on floor---so we are also addressing that. Thanks,Sam

Sucking hurts when you have a sore throat., so the problem is probably temporary and will go away when the throat heals. While it heals get as much liquid in him as possible using a cup or a spoon so he does not get dehydrated.

Oh my, I had this very same problem. Only thing my son was never getting a bottle and since he was my 3rd I needed to try to get him to take a bottle at 7months, even if it was my milk in a cup and nothing. So my husband and I tried pumping and hubby doing the feedings. different color sippy cups. He just wanted breastmilk straight from the breast. So after 3 months day in and day out trying over and over again I just straight breastfed, he was happy and healthy and so were we. we did it until around 16 months. Some children can be so persistent. My 2nd boy started taking a bottle at 10 months no problems, none. Each child is different. Keep trying. Don't force him and continue to make sure he eats well. Best of luck to you.

First of all, I am glad he is ok!! How SCAREY!!
As long as he is still eating some foods, he will be fine. Offer a sippy cup often. Try giving him things like ice cream, popsicles, ice water. Anything cold will feel good going down. This was only 2 days ago, he just needs time to heal. Just keep him hydrated the best you can. I think that is your biggest worry. I would stick to the sippy cup if he is rejecting the bottle... you could just get rid of it right away.=o) Good Luck!

This must have been an awful scare for you too

My nieces are 8 months old and for medical reasons neither of them will drink from a bottle. The doctor told their mom to introduce them to a sippy cup, it is not too early.
Maybe you could go out and get a fun one and make a big deal of it.

Good Luck

Well if the sippie cup is giving him enough to drink than maybe he is stepping up. But you can't really force a child to drink or eat. When he gets thirsty enough he will try it. Also try to give him his bottle when he is crying for a soothing technique for now. well best of luck
