Newborn & Baby - July 2007

Our anniversary is coming up this week and we would like to go somewhere on vacation. However, we have a 3 month old who needs to be hooked up to a machine that monitors her breathing (she's fine, she has sleep apnea related to her reflux.) It can't be too expensive, I haven't worked since March because of maternity leave and will not get another paycheck till October so the money is kind of tight. We love camping, but can't hook up her equipment if we are camping. She spends the night at her grandparents all the time, but I would kind of like her to share our anniversary, but it's not needed. Thank you for your help.

My baby was born prematurely and he just came home from the NICU on Monday. They gave me ready to eat formula. I fed him all of it. Then they also gave me some more formula, which I thought was ready to eat, and I gave it to him, and it wasnt. I was supposed to refrigorate it, and I didnt. Then I went and bought him some powder formula, and I let my fiance's mom watch him and she didnt heat up the formula. Could this cause him to be consipated? HE hasnt pooped in two days. He has been grunting and crying. I have called his prediatrician, and all he said was he can go 3 to 4 days without pooping and to give him an ounce of apple juice. What do I do? Have I hurt my baby?

He's 3 months old and shortly after his birth his eye became really watery and puss like. We're constantly cleaning it. We still don't know what it is and we've asked the Dr. a million times. He just told us to massage it. I've been reading and it sound like this "Nasolacrimal Duct Obstruction" but not to sure. Does anyone know the name of the antibiotic ointment . They use to put on there eye?

It is a Graco Snugride. I am looking at the Graco Comfortsport but the one I am looking at is foward facing only. I know I am supposed to wait until he is a year old to turn him front facing, but I don't want to buy two carseats in the next 2 months to accomodate that short a period of time. Anyone with advice, I would love to hear it. I am a fan of Graco, because of experience so far, and consumer reports rates them high.

1. How to give your newborn a sponge bath? I mean, can I use a waschcloth? Do I start out with a damp one with soap, then a damp one with water? I've never given one but know you have to until the umbilical cord falls off.

2. If you put diaper rash ointment on every diaper change to prevent diaper rash, do you put it on the boys penis too? Or just the butt?

3. I live in a very warm climate. Can I dress him in just a onsie (day and night in summer) I will change the onsie at night.

4. Can I wash our clothes together if use Dreft? Or should it still be seperate even though I am using the baby detergent?

5. When can he hold up his head on his own? Should I wait until then to place him on his tummy for supervised tummy time? (NO I wouldn't leave him alone like that or let him sleep that way, I mean for strengthening the muscles)

6. About how many months did your size N or 1 pampers last you? How many/day?

My sister is 8 months pregnant and she just remember that when she was 1 month pregnant ( on December ) she did not know she was pregnant so she did drink a cup of wine on Christmas eve and that was the only one time that she drank a cup of wine .

Does it affect the baby ? birth defects ? or mental illness ?? She's 8 months now and the baby is fine ( according to her prenatal doctor). But I'm afraid that after the baby is born... something bad will happen to the baby ... Can it happen ?

my son is 4 months old and has been bottlefed since he was three weeks old. he has always ate fine on the bottle, and hasn't been too picky about nipples or the transition from breast to bottle. well, he got his 4 month vacinations yeasterday and ever since he has been fighting me about eating. since 7:30 last night, he has eaten less than 10 ounces. it is now 1 pm. i don't know what to do. everytime i try to feed him, he pushes the bottle away with his hands and when i try to gently push his hands away he cries. he doesn't have a fever and our ped says he isn't teething. i'm nervous about this, not to mention a tad bit frustrated. has anyone had this probelm before? we haven't switched nipples, btw.

Poor mom is getting very little sleep and giving her heart and soul to breastfeeding. She wants her breasts to give the right amount of milk, no more, no less. Her milk came in less than 24 hours ago and is slow, for now. I already understand that La Leche's solution to slow milk is spending plenty of time nursing, and not to worry about milk quantity in most cases. Yet the baby (at 4 days old) is crying unsatisfyingly, even after up to one hour at each breast. Sometimes, she sucks less and mom must give her 1-2 tsp. of water to calm her before trying to breastfeed again. To be honest, we are making a habit of giving her formula for dessert because she roots and won't sleep after 1.5 hours of nursing . She takes an ounce or two of formula and has droopy eyes within 1-2 minutes!

Mom is trying not to use bottles/formula but also the baby is not giving mom even minimally enough sleep. During the past 24 hours, she slept maybe 2.5 hours. Please see my other 3 nursing questions.

I am a working mother, and I am forced to pump milk because I am not home with my daughter all day. They tell me not to mix milk from different pump sessions even if they are only a couple hours apart. My question is.
1. Say I am pumping and I only get 2oz at noon and pump again say at 3 and only get another 2oz. 2oz is not enough for my daughter, she eats about 4. If she will be eating both at the same time, what is the problem if I put it in the same baggy and freeze it together rather than putting it in two separate bags.
2. I understand their is a very intricate science to freezing, so if that is not ok, then is it ok to put the two feedings into one bottle and put it in the fridge?

I just wanted to see why you shouldnt mix them, I don't see any harm in it aside from the time of day you pumped, but then again as long as you use it by the earlier of the two times that I dont think there should be a problem...

Thanks for helping me on this!!
