Newborn & Baby - July 2007

I've recently started caring for a 3 1/2 month old baby boy. The mom is a young, single working mother. Just a few days ago she expressed to me how she hates working because she could very easily miss her baby's 'firsts'.
Today her son rolled over for the first time and I'm so torn. I want so much to tell her, but I also want to make her believe that when she sees him, she will be seeing him do it for the first time. Being a young single mom is hard enough, but knowing that you have to miss your childs milestones because you are taking responsibility just seems too much to bear. I know I might very well have to deal with this with ever milestone. What would you do?

My son has been outgrowing baby clothes like crazy!!!! He is 4 months old and wearing 9mo clothing. I was wondering if I should hold on to all of them or sale them? I know baby clothes are cheap and probably not planning on another child for 3-4 years (so I guess they will be out of style?). Should I yard sale/ebay them and use the money to put towards new stuff for him or save? What did most of you do? Should I just keep a few? Already have like 3 large tupperware boxes full and we live in an apartment where extra space is hard to come by.

Recently I took my 9 month old son to daycare for the first time. They were serving him his formula cold. I don't do this at home and asked them why. They said that at one year old, most babies start getting whole milk straight from the refrigerator, and that they were trying to get him used to it. I have always thought that you heated the milk up, even if it wasn't formula. But I am a new mom, and wanted answers from others who have done this. When exactly should I transition from warm to cold milk with my baby?

How long did you nurse for and did you seek outside support? Like did you go to a hospital support group every week or did your mother/sisters/aunts/... give you all the support you needed?

My dad mentioned tonight that I should pump and store breast milk just incase I get sick. I see where he is coming from but can my son get sick if I am breastfeeding while sick?

Im not stupid, just asking to get some insight. It is hard to pump when I am a stay at home mom and I am feeding him every 2 1/2-3 hours.

Positive answers only please!

My son was born 3 months ago and my boyfriend and I have not had sex yet! I feel like we never have any time to. Our son does not sleep very good at night so we don't get much alone time. I really haven't been in the mood i he hasn't really acted like he is either. I am just wondering if this has happened to anyone else and if it's normal and if it will get better?!

Any suggestions on how to increase my milk supply? I pump but I don't have time (I work full-time and have three toddlers and a newborn) to pump as often as they say, is there anything else I can do? My baby was a preemie and I really would like to avoid putting her on formula for as long as possible. Any suggestions would be great!

Sleep has been an issue right from the start but we have managed to cope with it best we can, she's 8 months and wakes upto 6 times throught the night, we often find her crawling around the cot in her sleep, legs falling through the bars, head buried under the blankets and bum stuck up in the air, sqaushed up in the corner. Its bizarre but she's done it since about 6 months, she'll cry out on the monitor if we ignore it she'll go into a full blown scream, so we'll go running, turn her back on her side and pop the dummy back in.Most of the time her eyes are closed but she's wriggling and thrashing her head about, other times she'll scream and be wide awake only calming when i give her a bottle and into our bed for the rest of the night (not sure if she's too old for a night feed). We've tried leaving a light on,keep it warm, has plenty of food and water before bed, has a cuddle blanket.Does anyone have a similar problem or know any suggestions? Thanks

Lately may baby has been really good he'll just stay in his crib most of the day with his moblie on and he seems fine. So it gives me a break but now i hardly give him attention and hold him. Should i feel bad about that? It's just im a first time mom and i like having a break once in a while. Thanks

My baby's belly button pops out, is that normal or will it go in? Or do I have to do something so the baby has an inie not an outie?

My 9 month old has a cold. At least I think it is a cold. She had a fever, but it broke last night. She does have a viral infection in her throat, which she is on meds for.

She has a cough, a small nasal congestion.

Instead of leaving the a/c on, can I use her ceiling fan to keep her cool w/o adding to her cold problems? We don't have a humidifier and I can't get one for a few days.

Thanks.

I don't understand why mothers want their babies to breastfeed so bad. In my opinion I wouldn't want to. I'd rather use a bottle. Of course I'm not having kids any time soon. But is there a reason women want to breastfeed so bad?
