As a new mom I worried about warming up the formula but read all the bad things about the microwave and how it could have hot spots. I didn't want to worry about other methods after some sleepless nights so I ended up using water at room temperature. I do that for the whole first year because they seem to hate it cold. My third baby just turned one so I slowly transitioned her not only to the whole milk taste but to the temperature and it went very good. I would change out one ounce every few days. So I would decrease one ounce of formula and add one of the cold. This doesn't exactly apply to you, but if you wanted to do all cold milk then you could do most warm and one ounce of cold, and up it every few days. It isn't a big deal though as long as they eat it.

There is no "right" time -- warm milk is better for an infants tummy, to keep them from getting a belly ache. By 9 months, I dount cold milk will hurt him and if he likes it, there is no harm in it. However, if you prefer he still get warm milk, that is your choice and the day care should support it. They may have just been giving him cold milk because you did not specify.
As far as if you were interested in transitioning him, I'd recommend starting around 1 year when he starts on whole milk just because it is more convenient. But, even then you can warm his milk if you want.
Don't worry about time frames. Either way is fine.

Hello Girl !!!
Well honestly I think that they are just lazy, I always gave my son warm milk is better for their tummy, yes cold milk is introduce when they are about 2-3 yrs old, but not at 9 months. I would demand warm milk for my son and not in the microwave because if you put the bottle in the microwave the plastic gets into the milk. I think you should look for another place. I take my son to a child care center called "Knowledge Learning Corporation" when my son was smaller I would tell them exaclty what to feed him and they would do so, now his three yes I am still picky but not as much. Remeber that;s your baby you have to do whats best for him.
Good Luck girl!!!

My babies got their milk warm for about 10 months, then I went to room temperature for a short time. By the time they were a year, they could take it cold.

If you are talking about powder formula, I would reccomend using room temp water (which generally is cool). That worked for both my sons. My daughter was on concentrate at around 9 months I began using cold milk. I noticed though that they all slept better at night if it was slightly warmed. I don't feel your day care was out of line though at all. He would be right about the age to begin giving cooler milk.

My son was a year old when he started drinking cold whole milk. When they are about a year warming it is futile. The reason we warm it when they are an infant is to make it easy on their tummies. At a year they should be on whole milk and table food completely.

My son was 10 months old when I started giving him whole milk...when I did give it him, it was always cold. The temperature of the milk doesnt make any difference as far as the nutritional qualities go, as far as warm or cold goes.

i think its the childs preference. if he likes it cold, there should be no problem... but, if he prefers it warm, maybe you can request his milk/formula served warm. (my 5-year-old still likes a warm cup of milk before bed.)

Every baby is different, but if your son drinks the formula cold, there is no harm in it.
