I don't think there will always be a certain set color.
Sometimes kid's eyes just change colors constantly.
I was born with dark blue eyes, but now at 18 I have true hazel eyes.
My sister was born with dark brown eyes, and she (12 y/o) has hazel eyes, too.
My youngest sister (4 y/o) was born with light blue/grey eyes, and they're still the same.
(And yes, we all have the exact same biological mother and father)

My daughter was born with the usual navy blue newborn eyes, and in a couple of years we realized we had a brown eyed baby girl. Until she was 12 or so. I looked into her eyes and realized that the brown was in the center, but the outside had turned green. Just like mine. Hazel.
My son was born with black eyes. I could not see the pupil of his eyes because they were so dark. They've lightened up a bit, but they are definitely dark brown eyes.
So one kid was half grown before I knew, and the other I knew immediately. How's that for "it varies for each child."

The eventual color of your baby’s eyes may change as his or her body begins to produce melanin - and this can take anywhere up to three years although for most babies this change will occur from around 6 months of age to one year.
Lighter skinned babies are usually born with slate blue eyes and darker skinned babies usually have dark brown or black eyes.
It took almost 2 years for one of my childrens eyes to stop changing. He now has the most beautiful Hazel-green eyes I have ever seen! :)

My daughter's stayed blue. My son was born with blue (vivid) and have recently started changing into a hazel/green color.
He just passed the one year mark. So I would venture to guess it could take any amount of time.

if the baby doesn't take too long to open up his eyes it should take 1-3 months, you'll be able to know more for sure, when the baby has gone out in the sun a couple of times.
