I don't understand why mothers want their babies to breastfeed so bad. In my opinion I wouldn't want to. I'd rather use a bottle. Of course I'm not having kids any time soon. But is there a reason women want to breastfeed so bad?

I personally didn't breastfeed my daughter, and I'm pregnant again, and this time hope to breastfeed at least for a little while.

The reason is that breast milk is better for babies then formula. It has antibodies, it's more easily digested, and any doctor you ask will recommend breastfeeding.

EDIT:
Don't feel bad about what people are saying above, if you don't end up breastfeeding your child that by NO MEANS means you aren't doing what's best. It's just not comfortable for some people. Nutrionally, yes, it is best, but for each individual family and situation, it may not always be the best option. My advice would be to consider it when you do have children, and if after thinking about it and/or talking to your doctor about it, you choose not to, that's FINE, and it doesn't make you any less of a mother :)

Breastmilk is perfect food for babies. Not everyone can breastfeed for a variety of reasons (and I don't judge anyone regardless of their feeding choice) but most can, and it's the best thing for baby. Breastmilk boosts a baby's immune system, and is easiest to digest. Nursing provides a really wonderful bonding experience as well. The best book I've ever read on why breastfeeding is so important is Janet Tamaro's "So That's What They're For". Breastfeeding isn't always easy, but it's a learning process, and gets easier with practice. It's definitely something to explore before casting it aside as an option.

Breastmilk is the very best for the baby. Our 11 month old is breastfed and on solids and table food- and has been sick only twice in her life thus far. She has been exposed to so much because I am a kindergarten teacher and has an older brother. Even with us being sick- she has been fine.

You may change your mind when you have a baby of your own. Breastfeeding is not for everyone and not everyone who intends to breastfeed is able.

I am choosing to breastfeed because it provides the infant's first immunization, promotes healthier brain and eye development, helps the mother shed baby pounds quicker, gives the mother and child a closer bond, etc. There are many reasons why women choose to breastfeed, these are just a few examples.

Because Breast milk is best, and formula just can't compare. Yeah, it is a good alternative if you are not able to breastfeed, but it is just where near breast milk. Not only does breastmilk provide antibodies that cannot be found in formula, it also provides all the vitamins and nutrients in an easy to absorb form. Formula is man-made and is much harder to digest and absorb the synthetic vitamins in it. Breastfeeding also provides great comfort for baby, lowers risk of sids, and lowers allergy and obesity risks. Breastfeeding also reduces mother risk of cervical and breast cancer.

Some women feel that breastfeeding is an extension of mothering. We all know that breastmilk is a super health food and best choice for baby but its more than nutrition.

Breasts are not just "sexual" but were meant to feed babies. And I guess that some women feel strongly that they want to do the BEST for their baby, they want to be the BEST mom they can, and so they choose to breastfeed.

I think it is natural to want to breastfeed. It is healthier for the baby. I tried to breastfeed my baby and it didn't work out for us. This made me so sad that I cried. I was able to for a short period of time and it was a nice experience. There is nothing sweeter than seeing your baby comfortable and being fed by you. You would have to experience it to know what I am talking about. When you do have a child, it won't hurt to just try it...you may like it.

Because breast milk is so much better then formula.Even formula companies will tell you that. It offers immunity that formula companies could never produce into formula. The composition of breast milk also changes over time to met the babies needs, formula remains the same. Breast milk is also alot easier for babies to digest. There is over 100 different chemicals in breast milk, some that researchers don't even know what it is used for. However, it must have a use if "nature" decided it newborns needed it. Plus the breast milk is FREE. Have you ever seen the price of formula?

There are many good reasons to breast feed. First it is better for the baby. It provides better nutrition than any synthetic formula can and there are antibodies to protect your baby from illness. Breastfeeding also offers bonding with the baby that in my opinion is irreplacable. And finally it is always ready, always the right temperature, no mixing required and
IT'S FREE!!!

I guess most mothers want what's best for their baby. I breastfed both my children at least till the age of one.. I believe that it was best for our situation and I liked it much better than a bottle.. I didn't have to warm, sterilze or buy expensive formula or deal with bottles..My children also moved to sippy cups faster. I also enjoyed the bonding with both my boys. As well as the added health benefits... My children didn't get colic, ear infections or colds for that matter.. My body returned to it's pre-preg. state faster and I healed more quickly... It just seems like a no brainer. Besides, formula is expensive and I wouldn't have been able to stay home with my children if they were on formula. I would have to work full-time to afford it.... !
