my son is 4 months old and has been bottlefed since he was three weeks old. he has always ate fine on the bottle, and hasn't been too picky about nipples or the transition from breast to bottle. well, he got his 4 month vacinations yeasterday and ever since he has been fighting me about eating. since 7:30 last night, he has eaten less than 10 ounces. it is now 1 pm. i don't know what to do. everytime i try to feed him, he pushes the bottle away with his hands and when i try to gently push his hands away he cries. he doesn't have a fever and our ped says he isn't teething. i'm nervous about this, not to mention a tad bit frustrated. has anyone had this probelm before? we haven't switched nipples, btw.

It's probably just a reaction to the vacinations and will go away in a day or two. My kids never ran a fever after their shots but always got a little cranky and not hungry. As long as he is still eating something and diapering okay then don't worry and just ride it out. If he stops peeing and doesn't eat at all then take him to the paediatrician.Babies do go through stages where they don't eat as much but it shouldn't stay that way long.

Babies don't eat if they're not hungry, so refusing feedings for a day isn't the end of the world. He's probably a little out of sorts from the vaccines and feels a little cranky. Keep offering the bottle - eventually he'll take it. In the meantime, if you're desperate to get something into him, try a little pedialyte with an eyedropper - just shoot it into his cheek, like giving Tylenol. This way he won't get dried out. If he takes that without problems, try giving him his formula that way if you want, but don't force the issue. If he's still refusing feedings by Monday morning, call his doctor. If he doesn't give you a wet diaper in 8 hours, call the doctor - you don't want him to dehydrate.

Hi. Perhaps if you haven't switched nipples that might be the problem. I know my daughter refused her bottle and got very frustrated with me because I'd not moved her up to the next teat with more holes. She was annoyed because she wasn't getting enough milk and pushed her bottle away in annoyance. Also remember that you baby may just be feeling grumpy from his jabs. I wouldn't worry too much just yet, keep an eye on him and maybe ask your midwife tomorrow. Good luck!

I am sure this is very frustrating to you, but don't panic. Your son would eat if he was hungry. Maybe he doesn't have a fever from his shots, but he might be uncomfortable because of them. I would say not to let him go more than 24 hours with nothing or if you see signs of dehydration to contact your physician, but I bet he will come around.

Try giving some pedialyte (not the clear kind).
Do you put rice cereal in his bottle? If so, leave it out.
Has he had enough bowel movements recently? If not, give him an ounce of gerber pear juice to loosen his stool.
If he is constipated (maybe from stressing too much from the shots, or maybe if he got dehydrated), that can make him lose his appetite...
They don't want to put anything in their digestive tract if is is still filled up.

don't worry about it, he could be achy or just not feeling right from the shots.
It has happened to me everytime our kids have gotten their shots, he will take the bottle whenhe is hungry.
i know its frusterating and you are worried about it, but it is completely normal

I would contact your doctor since he just had vaccinations. Some vaccinations have side effects and this could be one.
Good Luck!

he may just not be hungry....he'll take his bottle when he is ready....just be ready for him to be very hungry...don't force him to eat...he seems to be out of sorts because of the shots he just had...so breath..and relax...it will be okay.
