My sister is 8 months pregnant and she just remember that when she was 1 month pregnant ( on December ) she did not know she was pregnant so she did drink a cup of wine on Christmas eve and that was the only one time that she drank a cup of wine .

Does it affect the baby ? birth defects ? or mental illness ?? She's 8 months now and the baby is fine ( according to her prenatal doctor). But I'm afraid that after the baby is born... something bad will happen to the baby ... Can it happen ?

Not from one glass. If she drank a glass every day, it might hurt the baby, but even that risk is relatively small. They can't say how much alcohol causes FAS, because they can't study it, but it's surely more than a single glass of wine.

A glass of wine is fine, as long as that was all it was, many pregnant woman drink a glass of wine now and then, it would not be a cause for birth defects!

Many women drink more than a few glasses of wine and/or other alcoholic beverages before finding out that they are pregnant and their babies are fine. As long as they don't drink after finding out all is fine. And the person that is giving the thumbs down for correct answers needs to do some research!

Naturally it is always best to not drink at all while you are pregnant. But this situation occurs more than you think (not knowing you are pregnant and having an alcoholic beverage)...One cup of wine will not cause birth defect...It would take particularly large amounts of consumption to cause such defects.

It should be fine. In fact, some doctors advise that you drink a glass of red wine about every month or so when you are pregnant because it helps with blood circulation. Either way, something that occurred that early in the pregnancy should not affect the baby.

You should be fine! I got pretty drunk when I was pregnant. (I did not know yet) my baby came out healthy.
My sister in law drank wine occasionally when pregnant with my niece years ago. Just don't drink any more alcohol while pregnant.

Congrats!!

Stop worrying! The one glass of wine 7 months ago most likely did no harm whatsoever. She could even have a glass at 8 months. Tell her to ask her doc at her next appt (don't worry, he/she won't scold her) to get advice on the subject.

More than likely it hasn't affected the baby though I won't deny that there is a slight possibility. However, at 8 months she's probably already had an ultrasound and several different kind of tests so the doctors should have been able to pick up on it already, if there was some major complication.
