He's 3 months old and shortly after his birth his eye became really watery and puss like. We're constantly cleaning it. We still don't know what it is and we've asked the Dr. a million times. He just told us to massage it. I've been reading and it sound like this "Nasolacrimal Duct Obstruction" but not to sure. Does anyone know the name of the antibiotic ointment . They use to put on there eye?

The Dr. Also told us that if it didn't clear up with us massageing it. He wanted to prob his eye. I really don't want that to happen. And lately I think it due to his eye. He's got a really bad stuffy/runny nose and cries a lot because he can't breathe well. The Dr. Prescribed him a liquid medication and said in about a week it should clear. Its been almost 2 and it give him a bad upset stomach.

My son had the same thing, and your pediatrician is the only one that can prescribe an eye ointment for an infant---and the chances of that are next to nothing. Pediatricians do not want the babies to grow up with any antibiotic resistance and they are very hard pressed to prescribe anything.

My pediatrician told us this---wipe the eye gently with a warm wash cloth from nose to ear. Do frequently, gently massaging while doing so. If the irritation lasts for more than a 5 days, take him to his physician where they will prescribe something based on the examination.

I know that is of little comfort, especially when you feel your baby is uncomfortable, or ill. They will be fine, just follow the advice of the Dr., and if it gets worse, or last for any length of time, then, take him in to the Dr., or to the emergency room.

Good Luck!!

It's most likely just a clogged tear duct, which is why the doctor isn't giving any ointments. There's nothing to do except try to gently massage it and wait. My son had this happen a lot when he was a newborn, and eventually it stopped because the tear duct grew bigger.

However, do *not* try to get antibiotic ointment or anything without the doctor prescribing it! Overuse of antibiotics is dangerous, as well as misusing it. Just listen to your doctor and follow their advice! You can even get a second opinion if you like, but the doctors are the ones with the degrees!

Hi my son had the same thing and the doctor said that his tear eye duct was clogged and I needed to massage it, she also gave me a prescription for: "erythromycin eye ointment". I put it on his little eye for one day and the infection was gone. You are supposed to apply 3 times a day and stop when the puss is gone. Try it it is very good! Good luck!

Breast milk!

Use your own, or ask someone who is breast feeding! Work really well, I swear.
