If your baby is breast-fed, his diarrhea will go away sooner, and it will cut the risk of getting it again by half. If your baby is formula-fed, switching to a soy-based formula with fiber will help slow down the diarrhea. Eating solid foods such as carrots, potatoes, and applesauce will also help slow down the diarrhea. Avoid fruit juices, pears, peaches and apricots until he gets better. It should be about 1 week before things return back to normal. If the diarrhea lasts longer than a week, or is accompanied by 72 hours of fever, go see your pediatrician.

Give him some Pedialyte or Pedialyte pops... Don't give him a big full bottle of it if he's vomited in the last 4 hours or you're just asking to be cleaning it up. =) If he's vomited in the last few hours, give it to him a teaspoon or eyedropperful of it every ten minutes until he goes 4-8 hours without vomiting. (BTW - juice can make diarrhea worse.)
It's okay not to give him formula if he's vomiting. It probably won't stay down anyway. Give it again once he's not vomiting after 8 -12 hours.
If he has not given you a wet diaper in the last 8 hours, or he has no tears when he cries, and the inside of his mouth is dry - take him to the ER - he needs IV fluids to get rehydrated.
Otherwise, right now, the doctor's right, the only thing to do is supportive care - meaning keep him comfy at home and keep him hydrated. If he's only got diarrhea and isn't vomiting and his regular formula isn't cutting it, you can buy Isomil DF - which is Diarrhea Formula - to try to get him over the hump. Giving him any medication will just make the virus that more than likely causing this last longer, or just give him a BAD tummyache.
So, to recap: watch for dehydration, and if the diarrhea persists longer than 5 days, he needs to go back to the doctor. Good luck, and hang in there!

My son did this too. It might be a reaction to shot or something. Our doctor told us that a baby can have a reaction up to a month after shots. My son is a 13 months old. You know what was amazing at getting his diarreha to go away? White Grape Juice. We let him drink that for a day and the next day he was good as new. :) I know how awful it is to go through that and I hope you get it to stop soon!

Don't be surprised if he won't drink the pedialite, it tastes absolutely discusting. Try some apple juice mixed with water, or you might try the frozen pedialite, just make sure that he doesn't get a chunk broken off in his mouth (choking hazard), but if you're right there with him while he sucks on it it should be fine. At three months of age dehydration is serious, if you can't get fluids in him take him back to the doctor. Watch for signs of very yellow, or no urine, lack of drool, and sunken eyes.

You can give a Tablespoon of gerber infant single grain rice cereal in 2 oz of prepared formula/breastmilk. Just shake it up in the liquid.
It will help get rid of diarrhea.
Also give him as much pedialyte (not the clear one) as he wants. Diarrhea can cause severe dehydration.
I started giving rice cereal in my daughter's formula at 6 weeks through her pediatrician's supervision.
Do NOT put more rice than the above mixture, because it can cause more vomiting.

Sounds like maybe he got a little stomach bug. I usually give my babies water or Pedilite. It helps soothe the belly and get them rehydrated. The main thing is making sure the baby stays hydrated. Good Luck!!

Give the baby some Pedalight so that he doesn't get dehydrated. You might want to consider changing his formula. He might have developed a allergies to it. If he start running a fever take him to the Emergency Room.

My whole family came down with the norwark virus. Vomit and diaria for days.
Get those popcicles that have the electrolites in them for kids or the juice itself if you think he will keep it down but the popcicle is fun and gets down there even at his age.
Pediolite I think it is called.
Good luck.

Well I dont know if he is old enough yet, but if you go to the store there is a product call pedialite (for children) and it helps with BMs/diarrhea.

Just try to keep him hydrated with Pedialyte. He needs to keep fluids in his system. If he throws it up or has more diarrhea, that's okay. Just keep giving it to him.
