I have my 6 week old son and it looks like he wants to grab toys but of course he can't control his muscles yet. At what age will he start grabbing things. I have a 2 year old but I don't really remember.

I have a 4 month old daughter, and when u say start grabbing things im guessing you mean... actually concentrating on something and then reaching out for it.

My daughter started doing this at about 3 months, before this point she was just kind of aimlessly waving her arms around and hoping for the best... But by 3 months she was really concentrating on trying to grab something...

Of course she has it well and truely sussed and her fav thing to grab at the moment is the remote control for the TV!! so i never get to watch a full Tv programme while she is awake because shes always pushing the buttons lol.

They start to try to touch things as they can see more clearly, and everything looks so new and interesting! My daughter "swatted" at toys at 2 months. But the age when they can really "grab" things is around 3 months.

My son was a preemie (Almost 3 months early) and at 1 week old corrected age he was grabbing at the toys hanging from his play gym.

My daughter started right around two months. She'd just sit there and stare off into space, and on her two month birthday it was like someone flipped a switch and turned on her active mode. He won't grab at first, he'll just bat at them. The skill and coordination come around 3-4 months to pick up things. Good luck!

You need to hold things for him, encourage him to grab them. That's a critical step in eye-hand coordination. Six weeks was when my kids all started trying to grab things... I made it a point to hold things so they could reach for them.
