If you know you need to be somewhere at a certain time do you cluster feed before so the baby won't need to eat while you are at an appointment?

I breastfeed on demand.
Take along breastmilk if the baby is going with you. You can either nurse in public, at the appointment or use the bottle.

If the baby remains at home- leave a couple of bottles with the sitter.

I breastfeed on demand, and i've found that my baby has made his own schedule, and pretty much eats at the same time everyday..

I was a nanny and my boss breastfed her baby, and she was on a schedule. It worked well, but i think the schedule was more for the mom than the baby. she went out a lot and socialized, and never wantedto take the baby, so by having a schedule she could always leave milk for me to feed the baby.

I would start by feeding on demand, then assess the schedule your baby makes and move it a bit if you need. If you can, get a pump, and pump and give the baby a bottle if you have to go out. I did that before i was comfortable nursing in public.

Worth a try, but no guarantees. You could always try pumping some milk out ahead of time just in case the baby decides he doesn't want to cluster feed and is hungry while you are gone. Even if the baby doesn't take a bottle, whoever is watching the baby could always spoon feed him the milk!

It was really hard to go anywhere with my son for the longest time. He ate when he wanted to and wouldn't stick to any schedule. To top that off there were times when he would only eat for a few minutes and then want to eat a little bit after that. I just started scheduling appts or anything at any time and would have to feed him in the car again, even if I did feed him right before we left. It's a little weird at first, but you get used to it. Just make sure you have a blanket everywhere you go.

depends on the baby and the age. My kids always cluster fed before bedtime. And you can push a feeding up if you have an appt. There is no harm there. You could also pump if you know you are going to be out for a while. But myself, I just sat quietly and fed my baby. Throw a blanket over ya and no one will ever know any better if you do it discreetly!

You can try, but it is always possible that you baby will get hungry while you are gone, especially if your appointment will keep you away from you baby for longer than the time between his/her normal feedings. Can you bring the baby with you? If not, do you have any pumped milk that the caregiver can give while you are away?

I would just nurse when the baby is hungry. If you are taking him to your appointment, just feed him there if he is hungry. If not, leave some milk so that he can eat if needed while you are gone.

You breastfeed on demand. I don't like people telling me that I must eat at a certain time, I don't believe on imposing that on babies. Feed when the baby is hungry.

*lol* While you should feed on demand, you can certainly encourage more breastmilk consumption before bed, before a long trip, etc.

However remember you can put a baby to breast, but that won't make them drink! They may even suck, but that doesn't mean they are drinking.
