Newborn & Baby - February 2007

A pharmacist told my husband that because I was nursing my 11-month-old only twice a day, the minipill would not be effective and I could easily become pregnant. Is this true? I was hoping to keep nursing twice a day (at naptime and bedtime) for a few more months, but if the minipill isn't effective this way, maybe I should use something else?

I said no to having my sons chickenpox vac. because I felt that it really hadn't been proven enough. It's still being tested and I didn't want my baby to be a guienie pig. I also don't think that the chickenpox is a bad thing to get when you're younger. If he hasn't gotten the pox by 5yrs old, he can have the shot then. What do you think? The nurse sort of made me feel stupid when I said no.

I'm 22 weeks pregnant, and trying to get my shopping done early. I have looked at tons of cribs but they all seem to be over $150, or they are made of metal, and look completely flimsy and unsafe. I did find one on the Ikea website that I like, but there's no Ikea in my city, or any cities close by. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have been to Value Village, joined a freecycle group, look at a few websites with local classifieds, and can't find anything decent under $100.

Im breastfeeding him, he has 3 meals a day plus porridge for tea and a soothing bath, then a milk feed before bed.

He then wakes me about 4 times during the night i try to wait to see if he settles but he gets worse, then i try the controlled crying techinque and that doesnt seem to work either!
I end up breastfeeding him!

Please help as he has gone from sleeping all through the night up until he was 4 and a half months old.

Thanks

I'm only 3 months pregnant, but everyone keeps telling me that I should start buying diapers everytime I'm at the store. What brand should I buy?...I'm leaning towards Huggies or Pampers, but which one is better?

I am an educated woman and know all of the benefits of breastfeading, but why do I need to hang my head in shame because I gave my son formula after trying to nurse for only 2 weeks? I did talk to the LaLeche people, I did research, I did go to classes, and the bottom line is it wasn't for me or my baby. He is right on target, not overweight, and has had no allergies or ear infections. He even was on Soy based formula and switched to Whole Cows milk cold-turkey with no problem at one years old. So...why do I have to feel like I have a stamp on my head that reads "Beware! Bottle Mom!"??

My best friends daughter in law whom is only 19, is a habitual liar. Along with that she always supposedly physically "Sick". I feel she has some mental issues.

Her and her husband just moved in with his mother, my friend. They have a 9 month old baby, whom is about 16 or 17 pounds. He seems to be a normal baby. Since they moved in about 3 weeks ago She does nothing but sleep all day and my friend takes care of her grandbaby. My friend started feeding him baby food & giving him bathes everyday cuz the mother seldom did. The mother flips him upside down alot too.

Anyhow the daughter in law took the baby to the doctor today and she claims that the doctor told her that it's not her fault but he is Malnutrition and changed his formula. Supposedly the doctor said to not feed him fruit just vegetable baby food. Also said he could be going mentally retarded because his body can't absorb the nutrition. Mind you he has gained weight since they moved in.

Do you think she is lying?

My 91/2 month old is scheduled to have tubes put in his ears on March 16. He currently has had a double ear infection for over a month and no antibiotics have cured him, he still has fluid in his middle ear(both ears) and everytime we finish the medicine two days later he is miserable! I have two other children with tubes so I am a firm believer in what they can do. I am just hoping that there is something I can try to keep him relatively well until the surgery. I am currently running to the doctor every other week!

I just started watching this infant who has acid reflex. This baby has not stopped crying since I got him (5:30 am and its now 1:55pm) He did stop for a few min. here and there, when I held him or took him for a walk. I have other daycare kids and I cannot be holding him all day. I gave him gas medicine and tylonal/oregel since he is also teething and I am not sure what else I can do. I have been playing with him, put him in his saucer and swing...nothing works. He is 5 months old and just MISSERABLE! Right now he is napping...thats another thing, he naps for like 30 min at a time, at the most. This poor baby and I do not know how to deal with him. Any advise? he seems very colicky.

My baby almost died at birth because of the doctors mistake. I though that medical care in US is one of the best ones, that is why I decided not to go back to Europe to deliver my baby. But now I know I am having the next one somewhere else as according to CNN and other newspapers US has second worst newborn death rate in modern world.

A few things, we are having a first bday party at a community hall because we have lots of family, do you think people will think we are snotty because of that? it will be worded : held at Murray Hall, they many not realize it is a community hall but there is no address for the place (really there isnt) so I have to put that down. also, my mom suggested putting down my daughters clothing size on the invitations, i dont think I should, what do you think? Also, we are going to have a meal, should I put: "bring your appetite"? I think this is a good idea because then people might be more likely to RSVP if they know that we are serving food and we'll need to know how many people are coming. Do you think that would look tacky?

Within the last week, my 5 month old son started crying uncontrollably in the middle of the night. We have tried our usual routine of solutions (reswaddling, pacifier, burping, rocking, and feeding) but nothing seems to calm him down. This hasn't happened before, but now it occurs two, three, or even four times a night. Any help or advice you can offer will be appreciated!

He hardly wants to nap during the day and at night he cries until he passes out because he is so tired but he is fighting it. It eats plenty during the day and before bed. I dont get it. He used to sleep all night without a peep, now he is waking up several times a night and needing his pacifier or refusing to go back to sleep at all. I think hes teething, but what can I do to help him sleep all night again without getting him into a nightly routine which will interfere with his sleep and mine too. Please help Im so frustrated, and please to all of the people who love to answer these questions with a simple call the doctor and get your easy 2 points. Im not stupid, I know that the doctor will know more than most people, but I want opinions from other parents who have been through this, thats why Im on here.
