My 91/2 month old is scheduled to have tubes put in his ears on March 16. He currently has had a double ear infection for over a month and no antibiotics have cured him, he still has fluid in his middle ear(both ears) and everytime we finish the medicine two days later he is miserable! I have two other children with tubes so I am a firm believer in what they can do. I am just hoping that there is something I can try to keep him relatively well until the surgery. I am currently running to the doctor every other week!

There are natural remedies. Check out the answer I gave to another Mom with a similar question (just click on my username). And here is a good link:

Our son always has fluid in his ears whenever he has a cold--enlarged adnoids in his case. He's 5 and it still happens. He never had a full-on ear infection when he was a baby (or ever) because we put drops in his ears with vegetable glycerin, tea tree oil, GSE and lavender. I can't remember the exact amounts, but just a few drops. The page I have listed here suggests vegetable glycerin and GSE (grapefruit seed extract), which is a powerful anti-bacterial anti-fungal remedy (it has been found to purify water better than chlorine!). Good luck. Hopefully you can break this cycle of infections and not need antibiotics again.

Put a wedge under the head of his mattress so that he is on a slight incline while he's in his crib. It will help keep fluid from building up in his ears before the surgery. I've also heard of a holistic method that uses a round slice of onion wrapped in gauze and placed over the affected ear. The gases emitted by the onion kills the infection, but most children can't stand the smell.

Breast milk is one of the best treatments for ear infections. Squirt some breast milk in his ears 3-4 times a day.

Middle ears are notoriously difficult, because they have a poor blood supply, so I doubt it.
