No, every baby is different. my son started to walk 3 days after he turned 9 months, and my cousins baby had just turned 10 months. Some don't start until they are past 12 months. He just needs to build up his confidence.

any time between 9 - 18 months is the "normal" time for a baby to start walking, although some babies walk earlier and others later..you son sounds like he is doing just fine as he can take one step alone and can walk holding your hand..it dont sound like he will be much longer.
enjoy the time when he is not walking lol bec once he starts there is no going back lol

hi, my son did the same holding on to things till they have enough confidence. He took first steps at 12.5 months and now two months later is walking very well and occastionally runs!
It really depends on babies, i know someone who has 30 month girl who still not walking.
My sister in law works with autistic kids and i convinced she helped my son walk earlier than he would of done had she not of stayed with us for a week. She put everything he wanted up off the ground, usually everything would be at ground level. This encouraged him to learn to walk and strive to get things that usually were easy as on floor..
These are special moments when babies start to walk but it was an emotional time and i shed a tear at his first steps as to me it indicated he no longer a little baby, but a toddler..

My son didn't walk on his own until he was 20 months. 7 now and flying around the place. Doctors said if there is nothing physically wrong let him do it in his own time. His twin sister used to knock him over (she walked at about 15 months) and he only really tried when she was away for a couple of weeks.

No, he is not too young. Babies will start walking anywhere from 8 months to 15 months. Some babies will go straight from scooting on the floor to running in a week, some take months to begin walking on their own. You are doing a good job by taking his hand and encouraging him to walk with you. It's quite possible that he can walk just as well with you as without you, he just doesnt want to try; and that is normal and okay. you can help encourage him to try on his own by placing a toy in front of him and moving just out of his reach everytime he gets close to it. dont be suprised, though, if he drops to his hands and knees and starts to crawl towards it. Dont give up! help him stand again, and try again and again. he may never indulge you in your game, but its worth a try. Dont fret, though. He's doing just fine for his age. (something that you migh be interested in, if you have a way to do so, is watch him when he doesnt think anyone is around. He may do some walking by himself then. Some babies seem to have a stage-fright complex -- they dont want to show off a new skill until they feel they've mastered it!)

My nephew started walking at 9 1/2 months. My son was 10 1/2 months. One of my husband's nephews started walking the day of his first birthday, his brother didn't walk until he was 14 months old. My neice was 16 months old. Babies learn to walk at all different ages.

The normal age for walking is 9-18 months. My son walked at nine months, my cousin was 18 months before he would walk unassisted as he would panic once he realised you weren't holding his hand. You could see the panic in his face and he would sit down.
The ability to walk on their own and the mental ability and desire to do so are completely different things. And while the physical ability to do so is a developmental milestone, the mental part is not as much of one.

My little boy started walking on his own around 1 year but all children are different and do things in their own time so i would say that is about right.

No, he's not too young. They can go from 9 months +. It's funny you should ask that, my son just started walking on Saturday and he's 16 months old!!! Apparantly I was 16 months when I walked too. All babies are different. He will go when he's ready.
