Newborn & Baby - February 2007

My daughter Emma is 5 months old. She ONLY uses the pacifier at naps and bedtime. It seems like I need to stop the pacifier completely, since it is the only reason she either stays awake or wakes up...because it fell out! But now my husband and I are noticing that she will cry even with it in. It seems like she is just having a hard time putting herself back to sleep.
She goes down great for naps, usually for 2-3 hrs. And goes right to sleep at bedtime too (6:00). She wakes up though every few hours. I know she is not hungry, since she is on rice cereal and jar food, plus nuring. It is just that she needs help going back to sleep. My gut tells me she needs to learn to fall asleep on her own, but I have been reading so much about this causing a trust issue with the baby, and maybe other damage? I know I cried it out as a baby, and it happens all the time. I just need some advice..I feel like it is the right thing, but I am still not sure 100%.
Thanks so much!

My baby is two weeks old. I breastfeed during the day plus I pump some extra milk so my husband can feed the baby from the bottle at night. That means about 9 hours break for me. My friend today told me, that this way my milk supply is going to decrease, so I asked another girlfriend and she said that your body will do what you get it used to. So where is the truth, is my milk supply going to decrease or no?

I am looking for what could be considered the "best" baby formula. The best meaning the best for the baby including ingredients, recipe, quality, and taste. Also are organic formulas that claim to not contain growth hormones, steroids, antibiotics etc actually worth it. Your opinions are appreciated. Thanks

I am back to work and my baby will not drink my breast milk from a bottle when I'm gone. I have tried pumping and giving her a bottle once or twice a day to get her used to it and she is refusing it more and more. Help!!!!!

I had my daughter 7 weeks ago and am exclusively breastfeeding. I started my period exactly 1 month after i had her and bled for 3 days. Well its less than a week later and im bleeding again like a period. It seems like my daughter is hungry every hour now and wants to eat. But when we sit down to feed she will only eat for a few minutes and then start to cry and move back and forth a lot. Im not sure if my milk supply is low or if it tastes different? Could it be that my period if affecting it somehow or could she be going through a growthspurt? Ive tried pumping as well as feeding her to get my supply up and when i do i can get about 3 oz of milk from both breasts in about 10 minutes. Any answers?

I already know all of the great things (and potential problems) with the Bumbo seat for babies. While looking around for them I found the Infant Bumbo Sitter and the Baby Bumbo Sitter. Are they different? I can't tell if the Infant seat is smaller or if they're just labeled differently. Both say that they are made for babies 3-12 mos. Thanks!

Last night i dreamt that i was pregnant and gave birth at my home to a premature baby boy. He was healthy and happy though and there was no need to go to the hospital. He was the smallest baby i have ever set eyes on. When i tried to nurse him the first time he wouldn't take it, which caused me to lactate excessively. The second time i tried he would take it. I am not pregnant and have no children. I was also married in this dream as well however i currently only have a boyfriend.

My Daughter is 4 months old. Lately she has been fussy about eating. She still eats 4 oz and wont eat any more than that. For a few weeks now she has been eating 1-2 1/2 oz waits 4-5 hours and half the time she will eat 5 oz but mostly chews the nipple and pushes out before realizing thats all she can have. She is always looking at my food and acts like she wants a bite when i show her it. I'm losiong my mind from this. She is waisting formula left and right. She will eat only after figuring out that is all she is getting.

Please someone help me. She has her 4 month Shots/ check up on Valentine's Day and I'll also be asking the doctor then if he dont blow me off like last time. I live on an Army base so im stuck with them. Off base no one will take you if you have Tri Care for imunization shots

I tried breastfeeding my son (he's currently 10 mths old) but ended up putting him on formula. He was tongue-tied very badly at birth, which they didn't discover for a couple days, so he latched incorrectly and continued to do so even after his tongue was corrected. No matter how many lactation counsultants and nurses tried it was literally impossible, my nipples were in horrible shape and scabbed and bleeding. So I tried pumping with a manual and then an electric pump but couldn't get enough milk this way to keep him satisfied. I was soooooo upset having to put him on formula after I promised myself I would breastfeed through "h*ll and high water".

We are planning on having another baby in the next year or two and I would like to try breastfeeding again with that one but I feel bad that my son wasn't able to benefit from being breastfed.

Am I being silly for feeling this way? Has anyone else gone through this situation before?

He lives in North Carolina and we live in New York. Its a 12 hour drive from up here to down there. He's also asking that I meet him halfway. My daughter is only 5 months old. I don't believe its fair that she be in a car for 12hours for only a long weekend every other holiday. Am I wrong to not want her to be travelling 12 hours in a car?? Especially only for 4 days.. well really 3 since the 4th day she will be riding for 12 hours again... Oh and another thing.. she doesn't know him. She has seem him twice.. once when she was 2 and 1/2 months ang again at 3 and a half months... I know that at 22.. I wouldnt enjoy being cooped up in a car for 12 hours.. and I could at least get put and walk a bit if we stopped. She can't...

My baby is two weeks old now, I know it is way to early, but I am just curious - when should I start putting him down at night at certain time? I don't want to start too early, but I know that if I miss the right time, it might be much harder to do it later.

She's cranky and I can't figure out what to do!
If I hold her, she cries, if I put her on the floor to try to play with her, she cries... I started to rock her a bit to see if "may be" she was tired... she fell asleep and when I put her down in her crib, SHE STARTED TO WAIL... and has been crying for about 5 minutes... I don't know what to do... I gave her something for her teeth, she ate, her diaper is clean...

Please, any suggestion would be welcome!

I am looking for ideas on what to give my wife as a gift for having our child. Is that something that is even done? Also, do I show up to the baby shower? Do I bring this gift to it, or do I wait until the baby is born?
