My baby is two weeks old now, I know it is way to early, but I am just curious - when should I start putting him down at night at certain time? I don't want to start too early, but I know that if I miss the right time, it might be much harder to do it later.

My son was 8 1/2 weeks old when he started sleeping through the night from 7pm to 7am. We bought a book called "The Lull-a-Baby to sleep plan. The no tears, no screams, just sleep book" by Cathryn Tobin. It teaches you how to turn your baby into a great sleeper in 7 days. It worked for us. He is now 7 1/2 months old and still sleeps 7-7 each night. Also in the book the don't recommend a sleep schedule until 8 wks old because the baby still needs to be feed very often. They also say not to start until your child is 12 lbs or so. You have to follow your childs cues as well.

Good Luck!

Most of your newborns will not go on a particular sleep schedule because of their being so newly born and needing constant feedings every so many hours like 3 to 4. Also diapers tend to be changed more often until they grow up. When they get a few months older they will start to pattern out and you can introduce a sleep schedule.

I had luck with my daughter when she was a few weeks old...She started sleeping from 11 pm to 7 am every night because nursing had not worked out and we had to go to a bottle. My son on the other hand was much older before he slept thru the night....7 months plus.

my son never had a good sleep pattern till he was like 6 months...he would get a bath at 8 and go to sleep with a bottle at 830 but of course he was still waking at night to eat twice and for a diaper...you cant really achieve too much of a sleeping pattern at this age...it takes them a while to distinguish day and night and they will still eat 3-4 times in the middle of the night..it will take a while to get a good sleep pattern down...just give it time till hes old enough not to feed in the middle of the night...my son pretty much jus slept when he was tired and didnt when he wasnt...hes on a good sleeping pattern now at 16 months i feed him dinner between 630 and 7 and then bath at 830 and bottle and bed at 9 then he gets up at 7 in the morning....it will happen when the baby is ready to sleep through the night...good luck mom and congrtas on the new baby!!

I started my daughter out on a schedule around a month old... her bedtime ritual always started with a nice warm bath and lots of lotion massaged on her. I'm not sure if its linked but she started sleeping thru the night at 4 weeks on.... Go ahead and start him on a schedule, babies love to be on schedules and when he gets used to it, he will let you know when bedtime is getting close... Good Luck... remember that some nights just wont fit into the schedule... but just dont give up and keep repeating it every night... eventually your little one will get the hang of things!

at three months if he is healthy and gaining weight well then he should be ready to start learning to sleep through the night, might not actually sleep through the night but will be ready to start, as long as his weight gain is good. i have a copy of the sleepsense program i can forward you if you want too it's great :)

Go ahead, just keep an eye on her at first. Do whatever time is more convenient for you. My friend's daughter has been on a sleeping schedual since she was a baby, she does really good.
