Newborn & Baby - February 2007

I'd like to know if there's a way to know if my little newborn is getting enough milk to drink. I feed him and he sucks and sucks but I don't know if I'm hearing any swallowing or not. And at the end he usually falls asleep. And I'm not sure if he's getting enough milk or if he's just using me like a pacifier! Any ideas?

I am snowed in, with no hope of getting to a drug store, with a fussy, fevering, teething baby. I am out of OTC pain relivers, is there anything else anyone can think of that might help sooth her, other than me rocking her, for cuddling her? She won't take the cool teething ring, and rubbing her gums doesn't seem to help. I can't stand her to cry like this. I feel so helpless.

I have a daughter she is 5 month old this month on the 20th! I really want to start working again but... She screams when I try to feed her formula... Im not very interested in pumping then feeding her through a bottle.... how exactly do I go about doing this.. it seems very difficult... Im also kinda nervous because the only way she will go to sleep is on my breast... and when she wakes up a night I just breast feed her and she goes right back to sleep. it wont be that easy with a bottle will it? any good step by step tips on how to do this ?

his Dr. reccomend that we slowly start him on solids so we did just last week. He is 5 mos. old and has been on the rice cereal and applesauce for starters. (not mixed don't worry) He's is only BF and usually has a dirty diaper 2-3 times a day. The last two days he hasen't gone at all. has this happened to any of your babies if so what did you do?

I have made the mistake of introducing my 3 month to fruits before veggies, and now she doesn't want the vegetables. Does anyone have any suggestions to help switch her to veggies?

with my sis-in-law, for example, her first baby was 8-9 lbs and her last was nearly 11 lbs... so, does that hold true for most full-term, normal, healhty pregnancies?

My son hates his belly with a passion- He screams bloody murder when I put him on his belly and will immediately roll to his back. He won't roll from his back to his belly. When a toy rolls away from him he doesn't try to get it he just reaches for one he can reach. He is very laid back and mellow. I'm concerned about crawling and pulling up. He does sit up unsupported but will not put himself there. He also loves to stand but he's not interested in trying it on his own. Does anybody have excercises or suggestions or games we could do? (Yes I'm sure someone will post don't rush these things because it makes life harder- but I want some exercises we can do to encourage crawling or pulling up.)

We have a 3 year old Boston terrier. He gets VERY excited when visitors come over or when he meets someone new. We will have him borded. We've thought about spending one day at home with the new baby, one of us take her out. The other one, then bring the dog home so he can smell her. Then bring the baby in. Or maybe we should introduce them outside of the house. Anyone got any other ideas?

How often should an 8 week old infant be breastfeeding? Is it still every 2-3 hours? He will go 3-6 hours at night after a bottle of EBM. Also at what age do infants start to breastfeed more efficiently on a consistent basis (like 15-20 minutes per feeding instead of 30+). I know some do right away and every baby is different.

I took 5 weeks off for maternity leave. During that time it was the holidays and my boyfriend had to work overtime (retail). I wanted to spend more time off, but "the bills won't pay themselves." Now our schedule is we wake up at 530 take the baby to the babysitter (my dad's house on tuesdays and thursdays and my friend's house on mondays and wednesdays), I go to work, my boyfriend goes to school then work and we get to the babysitter's around 4. We get home and relax for awhile then go to bed between 9 and 10 and do the whole thing all over again. On the weekends I'm with the baby and on friday's my boyfriend spends time with him.

Are our lives too busy? Should we be spending more time with him?

Everytime he's upset or cranky I, as my boyfriend puts it, "baby him." I do that because I feel like I should be doing more for him than I do and I just want him to be happy & healthy.

If yes, how long were you able to do this for? I am currently exclusively pumping and I find that I am running out of milk, but my daughter has never learned to latch on to breastfeed. Any advice?

I am 27 weeks pregnant and plan on breastfeeding and bottlefeeding when my baby girl is born. I am completely clueless about it.

1) Can I pump before my baby is born so I can store it?
2) What is the proper way of storing breastmilk? How long can you store it before it goes bad?
3) Can you still use pacifiers when you are breastfeeding? Or does that make breastfeeding more difficult?
4) Do you recommend a bassinet for our room? The baby's room is right across the hall...
5) Is the wipe warmer necessary?
6) Is the back positioner for the crib neccessary?

Any help or info is appreciated. Thanks!

I know there are a lot of people who say this is cruel, but it seems okay to me after a certain age. If you've done it, did you feel your child "trusted" you less? Did you think it "hurt" him/her psychologically?

my son, 5 months old, has been at our daycare center (large facility, not in-home) for about 3 months. half that time he has been eating baby food.
he has had sweet potatoes ALMOST everyday during the past 1.5 months. seriously, i can count about 6 times he's had something diff.

so, my question is:
is there usually a way they track what the babies are fed each day??
i have it written on his "report card" each day that i get, but does the daycare document this somehow??

in your experience.
thanks!

My baby is a little over five months and she seems ready to start eating cereals because she will grab with open arms to her bottle and open her mouth and she can sit on her own. But when I try and feed her the step one cereal I put the cereal in and it comes back out. I do it again..I put teh cereal in it says for a couple seconds comes right back out. I am wondering if anyone has any helpful suggestions on how to feed her with out it all coming back out and putting it in her bottle isnt an option.

It's not an Exesaucer...

I saw it in Target and I can't remember its name, now they're out of it, and I can't even ask about it...

Please help me!

My 9 month old daughter's name is Nicole. My husband's cousin is also going to name her baby...Nicole. Can't she think of another name??? Why does she have to use the same name for someone in the close family?? Is it normal for me to be bothered by that? Her baby will be born next month. I just dislike that in every family reunion it will be confusing to have two Nicoles. How un-original is she???
