I am snowed in, with no hope of getting to a drug store, with a fussy, fevering, teething baby. I am out of OTC pain relivers, is there anything else anyone can think of that might help sooth her, other than me rocking her, for cuddling her? She won't take the cool teething ring, and rubbing her gums doesn't seem to help. I can't stand her to cry like this. I feel so helpless.

If you have whole or powdered cloves (whole works best) you can make clove tea. Make it relatively strong and just rub it on the gums, cloves are a natural anesthetic. In fact clove oil is the primary ingredient in many OTC temporary fillings.

For the fever try luke warm to cool baths.

Chamomile tea is calming and safe for babies. Peppermint can help a sour stomach though it is a mild stimulant so it may keep the baby up. If you don't have gripe water you can make something similar using water with an TINY bit of baking soda and ginger and/or anise and/or plain sugar. DO NOT use corn syrup, maple syrup or honey as they can all carry botulism.

Also try putting her in the bathroom with the water running as white noise. TV, movies. Etc.

You're snowed in this is no time to stick to the rules!

Give her ice cubes and watch her as she naws on them, popciciles work wondrs also. Uhmm and you could try the Johnsons Bedtime bath to bathe her in when the stores open that it is so u can get some sleep at night. But the best thing to do is keep her gums cool, she cant communicate and tell u whats wrong so be patient with her, she can sense when u are tense or upset. Good luck with that

Oh yeah girl you didnt know that u would be snowed in u need to stock up on proper supplies for times like these come on now Mommy, we have to prepare for the worst

well if the teething ring and rubbing her gums doesn't work there isn't much else you can do but comfort her emotionally. if she is feverish pay close attention to her temperature! fever is not a symptom of teething! she could have an infection, and if she has a fever long enough with out pain reliever it could cause damage. if it gets any worse consider calling emergency services

I'm going through a similar experience w/ my 10 month old.

He loves:
1) for me to rub his gums with a wet washcloth
2) for me to sing to him while rocking him
3) the shushing sound while rocking him (shhh)
4) to gum down on Cheerios
5) Tylenol & baby Orajel/Ambesol work wonders

I also give him water and give him toys to distract him. I hate seeing my baby cry:(

There's comfort in knowing that........
this too shall past.............

Best Wishes:)

-Wet a washcloth and put it in the refrigerator for a half hour. Let her chew/suck on that for awhile and see if it helps.

-Maybe give her some sort of cold food to chew on like a frozen waffle or a cold carrot.

-Wrap an ice cube in a washcloth or put it in the toe of a sock and let her chew on that.

-Dip your finger in cold water and rub it on her gums every few minutes.

this may sound weird but take some old keys wash them off and let her chew on them for some reason they like the way the metal feels or taste to them. I know from experience have six grown children and give everyone of my kids keys to chew on
