We have a 3 year old Boston terrier. He gets VERY excited when visitors come over or when he meets someone new. We will have him borded. We've thought about spending one day at home with the new baby, one of us take her out. The other one, then bring the dog home so he can smell her. Then bring the baby in. Or maybe we should introduce them outside of the house. Anyone got any other ideas?

when my 2nd son was born, the hospital suggested that we take an item of clothing to let the dog smell , and get used to {infact they gave us a onesie that he had worn in the hospital} our dog was 95lbs-- a mite bigger than a boston terrier..lol, the main thing is to get the bassinet out, etc etc, that your going to have the baby in , so he can get used to it... he'll be curious, and when he goes near it make sure he knows that hes not to jump up etc... i would introduce them inside the house,
and you HAVE to make sure the dog realizes the order of dominance-- that the baby is - in essence- higher in the rank, than he is

I had this same concern when I was pregnant with my daugther. I don't have a dog, but I do have cats, and I was nervous about bringing the baby home because I had a 10 year old cat and a 2 year old cat that were both very hyper. What I did was just brought the baby in the house in the car seat, set her on the floor and let the cats sniff her, of course me watching them very closely in case they jumped on her. They actually were amazing with her, they checked her out for a few minutes then walked away, shes 5 months now and they just love her and they actually stay very relaxed when shes around. My cousin on the other hand has a dog and she too was concerned. She did the same approach I did, she has an aussie sheppard. Her dog sniffed the baby out, and suprising has calmed right down since the baby has come home, and even has become protective of the house, lets her know when someone is around. I think you should have the dog in the house and bring baby home and just see what happens, as long as you spend as much time as you can with the dog, things should be fine. Good Luck though and congrats.

When I had my 3 year old, we had a 5 year old Cavalier and a 1 year old Cavalier. When we brought the baby home, we just sat down on the couch with her and let them smell her. They lost interest after about 5 minutes. Now they are all best buddies, as a matter of fact, they are all napping together as I type. It will work out.

Use the baby's clothes that he/she has been wearing and let the dog smell it for a couple of days. Then introduce the baby in person, supervised, until the dog gets use to it.

Wait till the two the toddler and the canine are in a comfortable temper and then, deliver the toddler in a n open room with some toys, then, take the canine in on harnesses, or collars and leashes, make valuable this is a protracted leash so if the canine shows aggression, you may quit the canine, and pull him good away, yet be valuable to introduce one canine at a time although, the toddler would desire to get overwhelmed, and cry and scream and scare the canine and the canine would desire to chew, snarl, or do the rest to get the toddler to quit. additionally, make valuable that your canine get lots of interest too, or, in the event that they do no longer, they are going to do something to do away with the toddler, and that i'm valuable you do no longer prefer that occurring. stable success! P.S and congrats on the toddler!
