My son will be turning 6 in late December and for some reason he was gotten into the habit of pooping in his pants again, but he alway makes it to go pee. We have been talking to him and taking away a few privileges, but it doesn't seem to be working. I would like to know what you would do. Please only serious answers. Thank you!!

My son is in kindergarten, my son took 2hrs and 45 minutes to complete a class room paper on rhyming when I questioned him he said that it was too hard. Do you think that the teacher should of stepped in to help him and how should I address this ? I feel after a resonable amount of time he learned nothing but fustration, I'm really ticked off.

I am asking just for interest: I have a 5yr old that is in kindergarten, She is in a booster seat and when i pick her up I pull over and buckle her in before i leave the parking lot. I have noticed alot of the kidnergarteners at her school are not in booster seats or other child safety seats .. and the parents let them buckle themselves or do not buckle them at all.. some of these kids are smaller than my 3 yr old...As far as mine go I do not believe my 5 yr old is old enough to buckle herself.... don't you think it is alot of responsibility to put on a 5 yr old to buckle themselves... and irresposnible of the parent for not securing them in a child safety seat? Thats my opinion whats yours?

I saw this on TV. The penalty was normally 30 day impound, but when the child (about 8 years old) sassed the officer, the father sold the bike and gave the kid a whipping. I don't think the father should have sold it.

How do you think children should be disciplined? (for willful disobedience, when they clearly understand what is expected of them and choose to do otherwise)

Should there be additional punishment? I don't believe so myself because he stayed in time-out like he was told to and couldn't go.

My boyfriend's 8-yr-old lives with his mom primarily but spends weekends with us. I am kept squarely out of the relationship as a "stepmom"-type figure (not allowed to discipline, but we do hang out). I like to buy the 8-yr-old a Christmas present every year.
Trouble is, he gets a LOT of presents from a lot of people, and never plays with the toys anyone buys him (he may be spoiled materially, but he doesn't act that way). He also doesn't send thank you notes and has never thanked me for any of the gifts. I realize that this is the norm for a lot of families, not to do thank-yous, but since he doesn't seem to like anything I've bought him, I was just going to get him cash this year (or maybe an American Express gift card) - for like $100. Is that appropriate for an 8-year-old? Thanks for your help!

Ok, here's the thing.

My son is ADHD/ODD, so in other words, he's impulsive and can't listen.

Every am, it's a battle to get him ready. He comes downstairs, takes his pill/has breakfast. I tell him to go get ready for school, he's someplace in the house strutting around in his underwear fooling around.

I'm tired of having to tell him over and over. (he's 10)

i have to leave for work same time as he goes to school.

suggestions? (i think i've tried everything, like the charts, rewards, removal of privledges..)

My son is incredibly smart, but he is below average in his academics. He is behind in reading, writing and his listening skills are not what they should be. We know it's not because of his intelligence. His own teacher has told us this.

But he is ADD (so is his dad and most of his uncles). He studies things he is very interested in, but could care less about the things he doesn't. Reading doens't interest him, so he doesn't do it. He writes some letters backwards (we are having him tested for dyslexia, just in case). And just zones out in class at school.

Can you suggest anything I can do to help him overcome his issues. I'm not totally against drugs, but dont want to use them. I dont want him hiding behind his disease and using it as an excuse for not performing to a level he is capable of- if that makes any sense. He's only 5.

So what can I do? Any books you can recommend or websites that can give me information on dealing with an ADD child?

I'm babysitting a kid tomorrow night (not the same one who is so monstrous, this kid is really well behaved). He's 7 and is a really good kid, he does what I tell him but he craves attention. Even if he is enthralled with something, if I leave the room (even for a few seconds) he bursts into tears and screams. When I walk back into the room he'll keep going, and he won't stop until I pick him up and tell him it's okay, I'm still right here. I can't even take a minute to go to the bathroom, he'll start wailing and crying. When I put him to bed (his bedtime is 7 ish and I'll be sitting until 10 PM), he will start crying out of nowhere. He will go to sleep and I will wait until he starts snoring (he's LOUD!) and carry him into his room and be sure he's asleep before I leave the room (if I have to take care of some chores or homework or something). But within about 10 minutes after I leave, he will WAIL. I have to go into his room and pick him up and hold him for a long time (continued)

My 13-year-old son has eczema on his legs and arms. He has all the lotion he needs to clear it up, but seldom bothers to apply them. When I volunteer or insist to put lotion on his legs and arms, suggest that he does so, or tell him I am going to rub it on him after his bath/shower it invariably turns into a battle or argument. His legs and arms are in such a bad state and I really do want to help. What do you advise?

He is quite smart for his age, so it could be for ages 8 and up or something like that. Any type of board game you know of, or something of the like. He is very athletic and active. He likes Monoply, PayDay. In our basement we have every type of game you can imagine. Ping-pong, darts, mini-putting green, basketball hoop game, air-hockey table, you name it. Please help me! It's almost Christmas and I have almost nothing for my son! It would be nice if it was at least slightly educational. Thank you very much and happy holidays.

I know parents who do this but I'm wondering if this is against the law. The New York State Compulsory School Attendance Law states that a child who is 6 by a certain deadline MUST enter first grade. I am assuming that there are exceptions. I don’t understand why. If the child is having difficulty, they will qualify for special education. It's not like the child will be in special education forever. They can be declassified. They can still go to the best college.

I meant is it legal to take a child out of first grade and just have the child be placed in kindergarten. The parents is taking the child out of first grade and NOT homeschooling them. Instead they are placing them in kindergarten in the school district.

I have a 10 year old son and recently he's been telling me I treat him like a baby.

I really don't. I put him to bed at 9:00. I let him make his clothing descisons and I give him $10 a week for an allowence just like his younger brother and older sister. I'm a single parent and he has no male influlence at all. I am trying too get him into the Big Brother program.

What should I say whenever he claims I treat him like a baby? Should I really treat him like one? I have a 8 month old girl and he knows how babies are treated. HELP!
