My bf (now ex) has a child with a woman who is clearly unfit. She has a history of (hard) drug addiction. We've caught her doing some pretty bad things- being high on hard drugs while he's in her care, leaving him alone in the house, not picking him up from school (we found her at a spa, after he'd been waiting for 3 hours), suggesting that he be left overnight with a cat for a babysitter.

Now she's slipped back into hard drug use. My ex won't do anything, won't report her, won't go for custody. Just keeps dropping him off every other week. He says it would be too hard on the boy to take away custody from his mom, and that these "mistakes" don't happen often enough to warrant it.

He says he's smoked weed in the past week (when he hasn't had his son) and if I report her, she'll report him and have him tested and the boy will end up in foster care. I don't want to risk him losing custody. He gives that boy so much love and attention and really takes good care of him.

My 6 yr-old niece had an 8 yr-old friend over yesterday with a number of adult family members. The 8 yr-old was telling us about someone telling her scary things about ghosts and that she was scared and woke up at night afraid of them.
In order to soothe the 8 yr-old and not freak out the 6 yr-old, every adult at the table said "I've never seen a ghost. I don't believe they are real. I think that other person was trying to scare you".
To be honest, I have seen and believe in ghosts.
Do you think it was wrong to lie to these kids? Or is it best to lie, not let them be freaked out right now, and possibly deal with this when they are older and more able to handle things?

I'm not the parent so I would go along with the parents decision (which i did). I just don't know if maybe we should have told the truth, let the kids be freaked but also tell them ghosts are nothing to be afraid of. Although they wouldn't be waking *me* up in the middle of the night - LOL.

The school is down the street from my house and I walk everyday to pick up my daughters. While we were walking home today I saw two boys hiding behind a bush and throwing rocks at some of the kids walking by. They were like 8 or 9 years old.
When I started walking by the same area, one of the boys came out of the bush and threw a palm-sized rock in my stomach from 3 feet away, laughed, and ran. I guess he thought since I am an adult, a woman who is a little overweight, that I was the perfect target. He was wrong.
I started running after him. Both of my daughters were surprised I could run so fast! I caught up with him across the street and pretty much tackled him against a fence. I had him by the jacket and he tried to hang onto one of the fence poles so, I pried his fingers off. I then got a better grip on the arm of his jacket and told him that he better bring me home to talk to his mother. I admit I was quite rough with him but, I didn't hurt him. Continued...

My daughter is 5 and we got her a Leapster Lmax for Christmas. We are trying to decide the games we want to get her to go with it. We'll probably get her 2 games. What would be good games for a 5 yr old who is in Kinder and reading fairly well?

TIA for your help.

I have a nine year old son with Aspergers Syndrome. I think he is an amazing child. I feel very blessed by him. The only problem is I have anew husband that I have been with for three years. He used to try and understand my son and was so amazing to him. Now that we have a son bettween the two of us he doesn't seem to even care about what he is (my son) is going through any more. He yells at him always. He calls him a wuss when he has meltdowns over things. The most recent fight was because our two year old hit my nine year old with a bat in the head. This caused my nine year old to go into a state of panic, at wich time my husband yelled at my son and put him in his room, and let our two year old continue to play with bat. When I intervened in hopes of a resolution he told me my son talks to him direspectful and when he gets old enough he is going to kick his a**. If things dont get better I will loose the man I love.

She often tells me that her work is completed, but it is either incorrect or partially incomplete. Currently, Em has a 61% for the nine weeks, and I have spoken to her about her behavior and her grades. I was wondering if you think creating a success plan, like a contract, for Em would be beneficial in helping to resolve this problem, or if you just wanted to talk to her. I really want to find the best way to reach her, I just don’t seem to be getting there. Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated. Or, if actually speaking to me might help explain any of these situations we could arrange a time to talk later in the evening if school hours don’t work. Please let me know what you think best.

What do you suggest i do?

I am a tutor/babysitter for an 8 year old boy and a 13 year old boy. the 8 year old hugs me and likes to sit on my lap, but when the 13 yr old tries i tell him no or ask him to stop because it makes me uncomfotable. i dont want to hurt his feelings, but i also feel violated, and i dont want to treat the younger one differently because hes just a little kid. but the older one asked me to go into the bathroom with him when he was bathing, yelled at me when i refused, always grabs me around the waist and tries to hold my hand and asked to give me a massage. its very uncomfortable, but is it even possible to call it harassment since he's only 13? i dont want to say anytihng to the aprents because id feel ridiculous but i always feel so violated! he also got mad at me whe he sat down on the couch next to me and put his arm around my sholder, saying that it wa his hous and he could do what he wanted

It's been going on since he was a baby, he's always hated meat. Then we found out he was allergic to nuts, AND legumes (peas, beans etc).
I want to get some protein into this boy but I don't want his diet to consist of bologna and MacDonalds cheeseburgers (the only meat he'll eat. Hot dogs he hates too). Does anyone know of a protein source, natural food (no adult protein bars), that could supply the missing nutrients found in meat? (Without nuts)

My niece is 12 and has really bad hair and I'm not making fun of her. It's full of knots and is greasy and it can show. She never showers. Her mom does nothing about it.

She is staying with me for the weekend, I want to teach her hygenie and teach her how to care for her hair. What should I do? HELP! I know I should brush out all of the knots and make her wash her hair, but I want her to do it, when she's not around me!

OK so my mom is a teacher right and there was a teacher party at this teachers house. This teacher had a bar in her basment and my principle was hitting the licker hard, so hard he got drunk. when he was drunk he started stepping on my feet and telling random stories. It progressed to the point where me and my mom had to leave. Dont't you think that is crazy.

My seven year old has been tested and officially diagnosed with having ADHD. He is currently taking Concerta. He was started on the lowest doseage, and his doctor and I have upped the doseage three times because the lower dosages were having no effect. I have concerns about upping the doseage again. I have also been told by his teacher that she's known of a few students who have been on Concerta with no positive changes either. Can anyone recommend a different brand that has had a positive effect on their child? I would like to have some different options to discuss with his pediatrician on our next visit. My biggest concern is that I do not want my son to become "zombie" like, I just want him to be able to concentrate while he's in school. Any suggestions would be great! Thank You!

I babysitt an 11 year old girl, she is in sixth grade, recently I was helping her with her homework, it was math.
She was multiplying fractions. What surprized me, was that, she didn't know how to do it, without her fancy calculator (which she left at home). Her teacher, she said, had never told her that you could do it without a calculator.
I was shocked.
I showed her the "real" way to do it, that actually involved doing math, and she did the whole page of work.

This scares me, because, we are teaching our kids to be so dependent on technology, that they cannot do anything by themselves. And at such a young age...
Where is the work ethic?

Do you think this is terrible?

The child is eight years old and I divorced his Biological father two years ago.Like I said earlier he was abused by his real dad and the man I am currently married to thinks that if you belittle a child it will make him feel bad about what he does and he will change. He has spanked him across his back but he has since then admitted he was wrong and stopped doing that. I felt like he was being abusive by spanking my child that way.He still spanks him and so far he hasn't lost his temper. But I am still weary about letting him discipline my child should I forget about the past or stand over him like a guard dog?

Ok so i have an 8yr old daughter but i gave her up for adoption and even though she is living with another family i make a point of taking my boys out with me to buy her a Christmas gift. I know she may never get them or may never have use for them but its our way of not forgetting her and in a way celebrating Christmas with her even though she isn't here.
SHe is 8yrs old and will be 9yrs old in February, what are girls of this age into right now?
Please don't tell me give her money or put money in a savings account for her cause she'll appreciate it more i don't want to hear that, this is my families way of celebrating Christmas as if she were here.
Any help would be much appreciated.
