When we are 60 (my age) we only repeat from experience.
When we are 5, everything is new and experimental.
When my son was 5, he would call me Michel (at the 2nd person) or Dad (at the 3rd person). He knew nothing about grammar, he simply copied the way my wife called me. It was intuitive.
Likewise, your sister understands e.g.:
Mom = nice + sweet
Mom = cool!
To transport that equation to mathematics is impressive for her age but probably not unique. In any case, congratulate her, we all need it when we do well.

Oh Duh, no offence but when i was 5 i could do more then that, am not even exagerating, i seen many 5 year olds do many things, even more so then some decent educated adults, its not uncommon, get over urself & ur sis, thinking like this will make u look dumb & gullable, what ur sis u said done shud be expected in this day & age, these mathematics kids do in the likes of Pakistan, Iraq, Kenya amongst other less developed nations, trust me as a teacher, you gonna throw a party now? wait ur gonna want a medal for ur sis right? lol, gosh, so spoilt & behind in life, Peace.

Simple math your sister used simple logic. If x equals 3 and you add 2 to it that means x would equal five. Nope no genius here.

She's smart, but I believe she's probably copying something she saw you working on... The usage of "X" as the result you're looking for is a mathematical standard, not a thing a child of 5 just kinda "thinks" by herself.
But I must say that figuring out the result of a simple addition shows that she's above average in smarts. Cheers.

she sounds smart. However, I think it might have just been simple atithmetic since she didn't have to carry anything across the equal sign. Such as:
2x = 6
x=3
Now that would have been impressive.
However, doing regular math that young is still good, so encourage her and maybe even try and help her learn it. :)

That's pretty good for a five year old. Might look into having someone teach her more math since she seems pretty good at it already and they won't teach her that(Algebra) until she's in upper elementary to middle school

Might be, encourage her by letting her watch you do your homework more often.....it could be that she just wrote something from memory, but still.
Tell your parents, the school can give her an IQ test and put her in gifted and advanced programs, at least that what they did with me when I was in Elementary school.......

its simple math but i would teach her simple algebra if she is doing that, start teaching her how to make change out of dollar bills too, my teacher in college did that with his daughter and she has already been offered a full ride to over 20 colleges and she is in the 9th grade

My son was doing that in kindergarten and while he is ahead of most of his classmates that's not all that extraordinary. That's very simple math. She saw you doing your work and she mimicked you. It's good that she did that though.
