Should there be additional punishment? I don't believe so myself because he stayed in time-out like he was told to and couldn't go.

Absolutely no extra punishment. The child should of been allowed to go potty then back to the corner. Everyone can't always hold it. How would the parent like it if they couldn't go to the bathroom?

There should be no punishment at all.

When I put my children in time out, they are told that they can only leave the room to go to the potty. If they go to the bathroom, stop the timer. When they return to their room, continue the timer.

Time out is not a bad thing. It is a good concept that teaches the kids when they do wrong without violence. However, it does not work unless it is done properly. Many children do not understand when they are explained to. They are not adults. Just make sure that they are only in time out for 1 minute per year of age. The timer shouldn't be started until crying has ceased. They must be allowed to go to the bathroom. This is soley a time for them to calm down. My kids draw and read in their room during time outs. Kids need breaks just like adults do.

No, he should have been allowed to use the bathroom. Then right back in time out. There should be a punishment for the person who gave the time-out. He did what he was asked, so why would there be an additional punishment?

ADDED: So what if he is potty trained? Kids still have accidents! If it was an emergency, then it is quite understandable.

How old is the child?

Next time, let him use the toilet!

Additional punishment? If the kid is 7 years old, yeah. If they are 4, no way.

Was this an act of spite or an uncontrollable accident?

If a child wets his pants because he is not able to go to the bathroom, I don't see that as his fault. Why should he be punished for something that was not his fault?

No he shouldn't be punished. He was in a time out and didn't say he had to use the toilet because he was having a time out. I personally would have let him to to the washroom then continued the time out afterwards.

I think BEFORE you punish him, he should be sent to the toilet. If he doesn't use it, then he needs to face the consequences. Do not punish him additionally, though, because he can't help what he isn't allowed to do during time out.

Of course not! Why would there be additional punishment for peeing in his pants? He couldn't help that!

The parent should be punished for not allowing their child to go to the bathroom. That's neglect.
