My niece lives with my parents and older sister, all of whom are indoor smokers. She just turned 1 today, and has gotten repeated throat infections. The doctor has issued written instructions that adults are to smoke outside so as to not harm the baby's health. They continue to do so regardless.

Myself and the parents (they're teens, don't smoke, but have no choice but to live there so they aren't directly harming the baby themselves) were wondering if we could report the smokers to CPS without having the baby taken away? Could they just fine the smokers? Is knowingly endangering the baby's health like this abuse? We live in California.

Thank you for any help.

I'm 11 and I turn 12 tomorrow. I keep saying that I want to have an abortion but I really want to keep my baby. My parent know and said I can choose what I want. Is it wrong for me to want to keep my baby?

closed and independent adoption. Are there sites that find birthmothers without the use of an agency? We'll pay all legal fees.

what happens next? (I am talking about if a girl/woman doesn't want the baby...if that wasn't clear?)

The only reason I was asking was because I was curious if they attempt to find either parent of the child, or if dropping the baby off, legally terminates the parents rights?
Then I was wondering if they tracked the father down, could he be forced to pay child support, or if he decided to take the baby, could he force mom to pay child support.

Then that made me wonder if a mom can put a child up for adoption without the fathers consent, and what if she doesn't know who the father is?

I have a string of questions about this popping into my head, so anyone with any knowledge on this subject...even if it is not something I specifically asked feel free to enlighten me.

Oh, and don't worry, this question has nothing to do with me...or anyone having done this or thinking of doing it. No need for anyone to worry. I am just being inquisitive.

believe that there actually ARE women out there that absolutely DO NOT produce breastmilk? About 5% of the population does not produce breastmilk, at all. Do those women expect us to whip out our medical records to prove that we do not make breastmilk so that we can be free of their ridicule and and name calling?

when I breasfed my daughter it hurt me so much that about after maybe 2 or 3 months I gave up an switched her to the bottle & formula.
I had some really helpful friends that were nurses at the hospital and they said that I was doing everything right.
would it only have hurt for a little while or would it have always been like that until I weaned her from it?

I need some ideas, please to get her into her own bed. Her room is lovely, full of princesses, she never slept in her crib, her toddler bed and she's never slept in her "big girl" bed. We've tried letting her cry, we've tried staying w/her til she's asleep, she winds up in our bed, smack in the middle. We know now that "co-sleeping" is not for us, but when she was an infant it made life so much easier... please help. I really would like this to be a stress free for her as possible, but it's making her dad and I really cranky. Thanks

Did anyone else start feling really sad when they noticed their baby really wasn't a baby anymore...my daughter just turned two, and she's potty trained, sleeps in a bed rather than a cot, eats all by herself, uses 'big girl' cups for her drinks, okay she spills sometimes, but she knows how to use them...
It just makes me see that she's growing up so fast, and I miss her being little! I was told so many times 'She won't be a baby for long'...but the truth of it never quite hit until now.

So my question is, did any of you feel sad when you noticed your children growing up so fast? How did you deal with it?
I know that she is turning into a marvellous little girl, but it's so depressing! Is there such a thing as the two year blues?

I did ask this in the parenting section, but not many answered...

My soon to be husband and I are thinking of having a baby. I am 19 and he is 21. This is more his idea than mine, but i really feel like we are ready. We have been together for a long time, and will be getting married in 2 months, we have jobs..good income, a house & a really stable relationship.

I am ready to start trying but, i am hesitant about what his family is going to think since we are just going to be getting married...

my question is, should i really care what they think? i mean we're adults & going to soon be husband and wife....what do you think???

I have a 8 week old baby, She has colic. At first she would only sleep in a bouncer, then she would sleep just fine in her bassinette, the back to her bouncer, now she loves to be swaddled. She is colicy. She will sleep for 6 hours at night if swaddled, either in her bouncer or bassinete. Now, i dont have a problem with swaddling her, but im worried about SIDS and what I always hear or am told " no blankets" When I swaddle her she is so tight she can not get her arms out at all, not tight where she can't breath, but she just loves it, she instantly starts cooing and calms down when I do it. Is it really that bad If i let her sleep bundled up, i wake up every hour to check her, im worried, i dont want to put her in her crib becuase of that. Has anyone else done this? Has your baby only wanted to sleep good swaddled? And how long was your baby in your room with you? HOw long is too long? If the blanket is under her tight should I stop worring?>? Thanks

Without me telling you too much.... I'm 39 weeks and 1 day pregnant, 2 cm dilated, 65% effaced, baby is engaged. I've gained almost 70 lbs, carrying low (but this is #3) and I crave everything, babies heartbeat is around 135-145.

Do you think I'm having a boy or girl? We didn't find out the sex....

Also, when do you think I'll have my baby? Doing it natural at home with a midwife so there's no going to be induced at the hospital!

Thanks guys!! I mean, gals...!

He is the youngest in his class and all of his classmates have turned 6 already and some are turning 7 a few days after his 6th Birthday. The teacher suggests repeating because of his emotional status. As for academically and socially he is fine but he has problems being mature in certain situations. I am afraid that is going to be bored with school since K is pretty much the same in all classes.

My 2 years old always get in trouble in school smacking the teacher and other kids. He does that too at home with us, when he has a temper tantrum, the first thing he does is smacking us in the face, he broke my glasses last week and he bump off my front tooth with his head today, it was so painful I cried. My husband does spank him, but I wonder that method would work on his behavior
