No. Although you rarely hear of it, an objectionable name is often forwarded to a judge either by hospital personnel or the birth certificate registrar who then contacts CPS. The parents are then encouraged to choose a new name. This should happen more often in CA. Sometimes it gets through the cracks, but the judge makes a determination between the rights of parents to choose a name and the right of the child to have a name that is not an embarrassment. You'd be surprised though--oftentimes the parent doesn't want the kid or are drug addicts and that is exactly why they call CPS.

Obviously you're query has some significance or relevance, otherwise you wouldn't be wasting your time!
I WOULD SINCERELY HOPE this is a question people will never have to seriously evaluate......
Being a parent is all about looking out for the best interests of the child. Why would anyone in their right mind be so cruel?
This is an important decision, which shouldn't be taken lightly. To BE GIVEN A LIFE, AND INFLICT SUCH CRUELTY, WOULD DISGUST ME! Such a selfish act in all probability, will affect the child for the rest of his or her life!
The unfortunate fact is that society can be cruel and judge mental, especially at school - a time when their Self-esteem is being carved out, and if damaged may stick with them for life.
Children need to be proud of who they are, this is greatly influenced by how they are received by others.
This isn't even giving them a fighting chance! Before they are even born, you would virtually be setting them up for a life of misery, ridicule and embarrassment.
Such a selfish act would make me question the parents motives, not to mention their sanity!

I think an attempt to give a child an obscenity for a name would probably draw the authorities to check on competency to rear a child. I really can't imagine anyone doing this to a child.

The name "Gaylord" comes to mind.
Meaning is gay (as in merry, not preferance) lord or jailer (gaoler) in Old French.
It is - was - unique name at turn of the 20th century.
Unfortunately, the current political correctness of North America and Great Britain probably prevent the usage of this obscure name because of the popular Hollywood movie "Meet the Parents" and its sequel.
For me, Gaylord is a beautiful name because it means nobility for a male.
If not for the stigmata of negative social attitude, it would be a good albeit old-fashioned name...

Parents have the right to name their children whatever they want, even if someone doesnt like it. As for the people before me that said that a person who would name their child an obcenity should be punished for child abuse...are you kidding? How is naming a child related to child abuse?? I would never think of naming my child something awful like that, I dont even swear, but good God to accuse of child abuse based on the parents name choice is a little biased.

I don't know, but if some creep named a baby an obscenity I hope they get nailed for child abuse.

I wouldn't think obcenities would be proper for a new born child! People are naming their child with weird names nowadays, but obcenities I haven't heard of it. We ought to ask Jay Leno for one of his " Jaywalks! " LOL

i doubt there's any law out there saying that you CAN'T name your child a particular name. i'd really like to see a kid named 'douchebag' or 'slutface'...man, that kid would need some serious therapy later on in life.
