Why is it that a single mother is a victim, while a single father is not? As a single father (my fiancee was killed by a drunk driver when our daughter was 2, she is now 4) I have filed many appeals in court because of lack of support from the government and have won, but I still am shocked how often people fail to care about the situations many men are in. It seems as though single mothers get extra benefits beyond what a single father would receive in the same situation. These benefits extend beyond financial incentives, and include community support, outreach programs and M-for-M programs, etc. Yes, there are far less single fathers than single mothers, but the suicide rate among young males is so high, and one of the reasons I felt motivated to ask this question is because lately I have found myself depressed (not suicidal) and I blame it on the lack of community support and outreach.

Why does society have such little compassion for single fathers, yet so much for single mothers?

I'm 39 weeks pregnant with a girl and we have a 3 1/2 year old son. I would like to give my son some kind of gift when i get out of the hospital. I dont want it to just be a toy, i would like something that he will remember and keep. But at the same time be something he can enjoy now. I dont want cheesy big brother stuff. I've been racking my brain for months now and its coming down to the end and i cant think of anything good.

Just something special from mommy! Any ideas????

My little sister drives me nuts she gets everything and my parents try to tell me that it's not true even though I know it is. Okay so she has a horse and so do I, but I always have to feed hers when she stays in the house and watches tv. So last night I told mom that I wasn't feeding her horse anymore and you know what she said yep you guest it she said "oh well". So I just fed my horse and then I came back in the house but I felt really bad so I went out at eleven O'clock to feed him it was really cold and wet and now I'm sick because of her. Sometimes I just want to kill her. And just like ten minutes ago she was fine and she was watching tv with me and doing her homework mom and dad walk in the house and she goes crazy, she starts yelling at me and telling me not to hit her and I didn't even do anything. And you know what mom and dad did they grounded me for doing absolutely nothing.

The difference is stark. Our 14 year old is not his biological child, but he's a good Dad to her in general. Our baby is almost 3 months old and while she's totally adorable, he'll almost do a cheer and a dance greeting her and have to be reminded to say something to our older daughter. He tends to be controlling sometimes and those types like to "punish" when you aren't their picture of perfect. He knows he's doing this and has asked me to pray, but everyday there is another example of who he favors more and I don't want my daughter to resent her sister. She's not noticing too much or complaining (from what I can tell) but if I were her, I'd be a p'd off little kid. Sorry so long, but thanks for reading and thanks for your advice.

p.s. YES he and I are in counselling...

It has been generally forbidden to add salt and sugar to baby's very first solid foods. But I don't know exactly what type of harm they do to the babies. Can I get answers from the professionals please? From which agegroup I can start adding those?

I think I am going to lose my mind. My one year old boy has started chewing holes in his nipples on his bottle, so I was scared he might bite it off and choke on it, so I decided to wean him, as it is about that time anyhow....
that was about two weeks ago, and he still is refusing cups, and will literally scream his head off until he falls asleep from exhaustion. I am at my wits end here. Should I give him his bottle back, or let him keep crying? I can only handle so much of the screaming, so I have to put him in his crib after about 20 min, then I'll take him back out again when I have cleared my mind. But he is also pushing the nipple back down into the bottle and so it ruins the nipple, and of course he is biting holes into them too.... any suggestions?

I had my first child (son) 4 months ago. So this is all new to me and life is very different. How do you keep yourself sane? I feel so alone everyday with my fiance at work and feel like I'm surrounded with nothing but my house. Also how do you get the motivation when you feel so down and alone. This has nothing to do with mothering my son (if any SAHM no what I mean)and this is also hard for me to ask. Thanks for any serious answers.
