I think I am going to lose my mind. My one year old boy has started chewing holes in his nipples on his bottle, so I was scared he might bite it off and choke on it, so I decided to wean him, as it is about that time anyhow....
that was about two weeks ago, and he still is refusing cups, and will literally scream his head off until he falls asleep from exhaustion. I am at my wits end here. Should I give him his bottle back, or let him keep crying? I can only handle so much of the screaming, so I have to put him in his crib after about 20 min, then I'll take him back out again when I have cleared my mind. But he is also pushing the nipple back down into the bottle and so it ruins the nipple, and of course he is biting holes into them too.... any suggestions?

Stick to your guns!! Throw away all the bottles in your house. If you want, buy a sippy cup with a softer spout to start. Not so soft he can bite through it! Eventually he will get thirsty and use the cup. He is being stubborn, and you are not torturing him. I think you're right, it's dangerous to give him those bottles at this point, since he bites them apart like that.

The day my oldest daughter turned 1, I throwed away all the bottles. I think out of sight out of mind. Also have a variety of different sippy cups and let your son pick the one he wants. Better yet let him pick the one he wants from the store. They make a cup with a soft top that it is really easy to get a 1 year old to like. My family taught me a little crying never hurt anyone.

All 3 of my kids were off the bottle at a year, the way I did it was throw them out, the crying doesn't last forever make sure you have sippy cups though

I dont know what kind of cups you have tried...but if you havent tried this you might want to..invest in a cool cup with his most favorite character on it..you can make it a big deal go to the store let him pick it out..they often have tops with straws and lots of kids like straws i dont know why but they do...try that really play it up and hopefully when he gets home he will be sooo excited to drink out of that the bottle wont be an issue,....good luck

I had the same problem with my 2nd child. My mother in law came up with an excellent way with my husband when he was little and she passed it on to me.
He wanted a toy at the store so she arranged for him to 'pay' for the toy with his bottle. She talked to the cashier before hand and after my husband 'paid' her for his toy then she paid for the stuff she bought (including the toy of course). She did this until all his bottles were gone. My youngest is highly intelligent and he wanted me to go buy him some more bottles so he could buy more stuff but I told him that I wasn't allowed to buy bottles unless I had a baby that was under a 1 year old. Neither my kid or my husband ever hollared for the bottle after that. They were happy with the toy.

ley him cry it out.

you have made it two weeks, congrats!!! weaning a child can be very difficult. if you back down now, it will just be harder next time, and just as long.

have you tried the cups that have softer sippy-spout? they are thinker then bottle nipples, so he wouldnt be able to chew them up as easily, ans it will be easier to go from one of those to a hard-spout sippy. and it MiGhT help his screaming.

either way, Good Luck, and no, your not a bad parent for letting him cry.

You need to feed him another half bottle, he is not content with one anymore, my son did exactly the same thing
