My 4 year old son is being potty trained,he`s always had developmental delay, anyway he will use the potty to do a wee then empty it down the pan, flush and wash his hands.the problem however is he wont do a poo in his potty instead he pulls out his bed and does it there leaving little surprises for me!!

How do i get him to stop this??

Bless him!!!!! Lovely!!! It is always more difficult to potty train poo than wee. For some reason they don't like pooing in the potty. Mine was the same except he used to do it behind the curtain in the living room!!! all you can do is be patient. Go completely over the top with praise when he wees in the potty but if he poos somewhere else, don't make an issue of it, just clear it away and be very matter of fact about it telling him to try in the potty next time. He'll get bored of getting no attention for it when he gets heaped with praise for weeing properly. Good Luck!

Something has happened somewhere along the line to make this happen. For instance I laughed briefly once when my two year old peed in the bath, now he thinks its a great lark to do this everytime. Just sit him down (i realise he has a devel. delay so I know this isn't easy) and talk to him seriously about how the potty needs his poo and that mummy can't allow him him to do it in the bed etc etc. Then make a big fuss of him (how good he is etc) maybe rope in daddy or granny to help with this praise, that works everytime for my little one. Best of Luck this is a hard job.

You could try tempting him with the proper toilet ........convincing him that that is the "grown up" way to do it. Alternatively buy a different pot that he might regard as specially for poo!
I found that mixing with other children at a nursery made a big difference to my son, as he was fascinated to discover that other children also went to the loo, and he started to copy them....(he was toilet training at the time), so he wanted to be like them.
You could try a playgroup if he's not in school yet or a part time nursery place (nurserys are very good at sorting these things out).

Make him clean it up himself. That usually works.
