I just want to take the time to express my "THANKS" & "APPRECIATION" to all our American servicemen & women who have served and are serving still all over the world; especially in Iraq and Afghanistan. I am a Vietnam vet. I wasn't welcomed home when I returned. But my heart goes out to all the Iraqi and Afghan U.S. military who have and are serving for our country & the sacifices you have made. While you all may not agree with the reasons you are serving in the Middle East the fact remains YOU ARE in harms way. We Americans ought to go OUT OF WAY to thank our servicemen & servicewomen as they return - at the airports, bus terminals or wherever.

You all do us proud!!!

You sacrificed an awful lot for us. You are appreciated and loved.

I guess I wasn't understood previously. I didnt hide information. I just forgot, it was an honest mistake.

I was at MEPS and leaving for basic training the day a charge I forgot to mention was found. I swore in at meps, but was never sent to basic. I was told I can enlist again in 6 months, so basically I was discharged, I'm assuming. I got hit with a fradulent enlistment, but it was a honest mistake. I have a GED, and 3 misdemeanors.

A domestic battery when I was 16, which I forgot to mention. Did a years probation.

Failure to appear/open house party. I was 18. Had to pay like 300$ fine.

Battery when I was 19. Did 8 weeks anger management, paid a fine of like 150 bucks.

My recruiter informed me that the battalion commander will approve me or disapprove me.My recruiter said on a scale of 1-10, the chances of me getting approved is an 8

Deep insight would be appreciated. I'm hopeful to be able to serve my country, its always been a dream. What are my chances to get in?

My father was serving in the Army. He was stationed in Pearl Harbor at the Schofield Barracks. I would like to honor him with this posting. Below is the link to a story published in the Naples Daily News in his honor.

Except WWII, and the GI Bill. Many Vietnam vets are homeless. Looks like they're being joined by Iraq vets. Am Revolution, Civil War, World War I, American vets got jacksh*t near as I can tell. But maybe you Yahoo Answer people can show me I'm wrong, which, honest, I would like to be.

I'm a recent college graduate (BS Bio, MS Bio) and served in the Peace Corps, what would my ranking be in the military if I wanted to join the Coast Guard or Navy (not into killing people directly) working in oceanography?

I have asthma and had it since birth. I am looking at joining the National Guard or Army Reserves. I am about to graduate college and want to serve my country. I have read about several people who have gotten into the Guard (legally) and have even been given inhalers. Anybody who can tell how this can happen without just telling me it is a PDQ and reading a packet that only half answers questions?...tired of getting the run around. I do not forsee my asthma affecting my ability to serve...my doctor even told me that, and he is a pulmonologist that specializes in asthma. I can understand someone who has an attack all the time, but I have not had one since I was like 10 or 11. And it is not like if we get stuck without my inhaler I would die or put my team in jeapardy(sp?). It is just a moderater and my asthma is def under control. Besides I can think of a lot worse that could happen to a slodier...like an aneurism or pumonary adema.

Any ideas?
Please help, really want to serve.

How would getting hollered at by a drill sergeant make our lives better?

I hear about some people wanting to make military service mandatory but many others disagree.

What would benefit one's life from serving in the military wearing a uniform and taking verbal abuse from higher ranks?

I am currently in the DEP with the rating of AECF, (EL6) set to ship 20080204. I imagine I will get some pretty good training with troubleshooting electronics, and most FC's and ET's iv'e talked to love their job.

My thing is that, I would like to eventually own my own warehouse, and do business with international wholesale distribution. Due to that fact, I was thinking that SK (storekeeper) would be a good rate for me.

The recruiters seem puzzled that I would want to give up AECF for SK given my high asvab score and bonus that I will get with AECF. They figure that AECF is a better job in the Navy and a better choice for me.

Can anyone give me any insight as to how much international wholesale distribution experience I could ACTUALLY gain from the SK position in say 4 years. Anything I can't learn in college?

Also, any Navy personell's opinion in these two jobs (AECF & SK), and which they prefer would be appreciated....
