Except WWII, and the GI Bill. Many Vietnam vets are homeless. Looks like they're being joined by Iraq vets. Am Revolution, Civil War, World War I, American vets got jacksh*t near as I can tell. But maybe you Yahoo Answer people can show me I'm wrong, which, honest, I would like to be.

When I joined the Army in 1981, I wasn't promised much and didn't ask for much. Since I will retire, all I expect is to receive the benefits (pension, health care, etc.) that I was promised when I retire. I feel that I have earned those.

No one ever promised me a home for the rest of my life if I completed one successful, three-year tour of duty in the Army.

In my opinion, as harsh as it sounds, you get what you earn. This goes for Vets as well as everyone else.

Braz50:

I was able to attend college also under the GI BIll in 1974, It was still in effect then to all Vietnam Veterans. The only problem I had was that I had a 10% disability rating that was taken away when Reagen shifted it to the social security fund. I'll get it back next year when I retire.....I am invited to an elementary school almost every year to join in festivities for Veterans Day, It is heart warming and greatly appreciated.

Just see the movie Born on the 4th of July and you get a pretty good look at how our Vietnam Vets and pretty much all our vets have been treated. And even now the healthcare for them is sub-standard at best. Your absolutely right, vets have been getting the shaft since the revolutionary war. I just don't understand it. Makes me sick.

And Dash I have no problem with the VA either but they are underfunded and overloaded and where does that all stem from?

There is no guaranty that you will make it in America; that goes for veterans too(I am a former Marine).

America does honor and provide service for it veterans, I wish we could do a better job but there are many people working hard to make the situation better.

The Veterans Administration people are always an easy target but I know many of them and they are very dedicated people.

America must give importance to veterans by giving them more pension because they spent the best of the lives for the country.
