They try not to schedule any new recruits into Boot / Basic at a time that would have them there during Christmas, other holidays are different though. Most of the time new Platoons / Fights start on a regular schedule.

They sure do! They start a new pledge class every week. Unless you have accrued some annual leave, you'll probably be CQ in your barracks for the holidays. Before sending some poor schlep who got drunk one night and was convinced he or she would look good in desert camo, they'll get some combat troop a couple of weeks off. To Jeff C: trust me, my friend, if there's any fire at all, you can bet the contents of you footlocker, its not friendly

You are correct, there is a 2 wk. exodus, and heaven forbid, dont call it break or vacation, you'll be doing PT for the rest of your life!!!

army is called basic training,navy and marine corps is called bootcamp,yes, they start any day of the year

Not for the Marines, but then again the army gets leave during boot camp. Did you know there is more death due to friendly fire in the army?
