I am currently in the DEP with the rating of AECF, (EL6) set to ship 20080204. I imagine I will get some pretty good training with troubleshooting electronics, and most FC's and ET's iv'e talked to love their job.

My thing is that, I would like to eventually own my own warehouse, and do business with international wholesale distribution. Due to that fact, I was thinking that SK (storekeeper) would be a good rate for me.

The recruiters seem puzzled that I would want to give up AECF for SK given my high asvab score and bonus that I will get with AECF. They figure that AECF is a better job in the Navy and a better choice for me.

Can anyone give me any insight as to how much international wholesale distribution experience I could ACTUALLY gain from the SK position in say 4 years. Anything I can't learn in college?

Also, any Navy personell's opinion in these two jobs (AECF & SK), and which they prefer would be appreciated....

mostly nothing. you wouldn't get into the high stakes until you made Chief ten years down the road. As a first termer you would be ordering parts for the squadron and staplers for the DIVO.

AECF nets you, besides the excellent training, an ACTIVE CLEARANCE which will follow you into the private contracting world afterwards. That alone can be worth it's weight in gold.

I wouldn't give up on AECF if I were you. I was an FC for 10 years, and that experience gave me an edge when I applied for my first job outside the Navy. 5 years later I'm the Chief Technical Officer and equity owner of a private communications network which serves major corporations such as Citgo, Marriott Hotels, Exxon and various Federal Government agencies. I pull down a pretty nice salary and I have my time in the AECF to thank for that success.

Stick with FC rate. I have two kids in the Navy and my daughter is an FC and loves it. My son is an OS and also loves his job. As an SK you wouldn't get much training for international wholesale distribution during your enlistment.

A four year SK is a clerk period. You would learn nothing of note. I was an electrician and I found myself doing SK work when I needed a part quickly. I learned enough by watching.

you first ought to take the ASVAB. as quickly as you receive your score then you certainly bypass to MEPS. on the tip of your day at MEPS you meet with a couseling officer which will inform you what jobs you qualify for. you will ought to go with earlier you bypass away. even if, you could exchange your fee earlier you bypass away for boot camp, communicate on your recruiter and that they are going to write an new settlement. the advice for the score which you have an activity in is all over the internet. merely bypass to Google and variety "military Jobs", there are a number of roles. Aviation, Nuclear, Engineering, and so on.... military has all of it different than a Realtor or a Vet.
