I received a picture and an 11 paragraph article on how things really are in Iraq, written by one of our soldiers there. His name is Bryant Shurley. Jan. 11, 2007, 2/5 Cav, 1st CB

I am quoting the last paragraph of the letter/article.

"If we leave Iraq now, it will be a failure for democracy. Iran will control Iraq and the end result will be more terrorists attacks on America. The American people don't want soldiers dying over here, but it's better than American civilians dying over there. Do NOT forget 9/11. They will do it again. The moment we loosen our grip on the noose, they will do it again. And the only way to root out evil here is to stop beating around the bush, increase troops and destroy the insurgents once and for all. The Iraqi goverment cannot do this on their own. The Iraqi security forces are inadequate for the task. We are the only ones who can stop al-Sadr."

He knows first hand what he is talking about.

I signed up for the MN Army National Guard and I feel kind of stupid because I thought this job was local. The recruiter didn't explain it to me like he should've and now I hope I'm not stuck.

Why?

Being in the military could teach them a trade and how to keep out of trouble. I think it'd be very good for them.

Red ants and black ants. I thought they had signed an armistice last week but they're killing each other again. This is clearly a pointless war with no winners and high casualties. When will the madness stop!?!

I find it interesting to note that during WW2, Americans were very supportive of the war, but during Vietnam and the Korean war, they seem to have lost their patriotism.

I am a proud veteran (11b 2/2 INf vilseck germany) I have had several friends killed in Iraq and many more that are there now. My point is, democrats serve as well. We follow orders as well. It doesn't make you a traitor to be a democrat it just makes you have a different point of view, just like it doesn't make you gay if you are a republican. Just because some in each party are idiots, not all are.

WASHINGTON - The U.S. government wasted tens of millions of dollars in Iraq reconstruction aid, including scores of unaccounted-for weapons and a never-used camp for housing police trainers with an Olympic-size swimming pool, investigators say.According to the report, the State Department paid $43.8 million to contractor DynCorp International for the residential camp for police training personnel outside of Baghdad’s Adnan Palace grounds that has stood empty for months. About $4.2 million of the money was improperly spent on 20 VIP trailers and an Olympic-size pool, all ordered by the Iraqi Ministry of Interior but never authorized by the U.S. U.S. officials spent another $36.4 million for weapons such as armored vehicles, body armor and communications equipment that can’t be accounted for.

He is Puerto Rican. He goes by 'Rosario'. He's a swimmer, about 5'11", very powerful build, somewhere in his thirties, with a daughter. I was in love with him. He asked me to marry him, and I turned him down because I was afraid. It's been about four years since I've seen him. I want to give us another chance, but I can't find him. We didn't keep in touch. The last place that I knew of where he was going was Korea. I don't even know if he's still in the Army. If anyone knows him, please tell him that I want him back, that I still love him. That I forgive him for everything*.

Six to eight gunmen — possibly heading for Mexico with drug money — approached a group of Tennessee National Guard troops at an overnight observation post Jan. 3 on the U.S. side of the Arizona-Mexico border. No one fired a shot, and the confrontation ended when American troops retreated to contact the Border Patrol. The gunmen then fled into Mexico.
