I am a proud veteran (11b 2/2 INf vilseck germany) I have had several friends killed in Iraq and many more that are there now. My point is, democrats serve as well. We follow orders as well. It doesn't make you a traitor to be a democrat it just makes you have a different point of view, just like it doesn't make you gay if you are a republican. Just because some in each party are idiots, not all are.

Agreed. Im democrat-Army and ive served two tours in Iraq.
It burns me up to read these posts from boneheads on here acting like Democrats are unpatriotic, hate America and hate the military. The same ones saying this stuff cringe in fear everytime they hear the draft rumor on the news.

Big Stan ... I don't entirely agree with you, but I think I know what you're trying to say. If someone said something about Democrats not serving in the military, they may have been referring to legislators in the Democrat Party, not the general public. Might that be what they meant?

That would be erroneous too, of course, but if you'll permit me to generalize (which is sometimes not wise to do), there is a widespread perception that the U.S. military enjoys much more support from the Republican side of the aisle than the Democrat side of the aisle.

This belief is not anything new, by the way. You only need to look back a short time ago to John Kerry's 2004 campaign where he wanted the respect and honor of someone who had served in the military while simultaneously ignoring all he had said and done after his tour in Vietnam. And another congressman whose name I cannot recall, had compared members of the military to Nazis. Under pressure, he eventually apologized.

Having served in the armed forces under a Democrat and a Republican, I can attest that the Republican party is much more military friendly than said Democrats. During Clinton's reign, military spending was drastically cut and military morale was at an all time low. During Bush the First, military spending was up and military morale was high. It was the same when Reagan took over after the Carter fiasco. Reagan and both Bush's were/are pro-military and it shows. The reason Bush the Second has had to spend billions of dollars on the military was so that it would be up-to-date in technology, weapons and armament because Clinton mashed the military into the dirt. I don't understand how any high ranking military officer can be a democrat unless they don't like spending money on their troops.

because when the pelosi/reid regieme use disgust for a very necessary war as a mask for a clearly engineered power grab, while doing nothing about it, and villfy George Bush, who has kept the us soil free of attack for seven years, though hes done nothing wrong, its difficult if not impossible to call treasonus people patriotic. Carpetbaggers have been around since the civil war but these are certainly some of the most corrupt.

Only hard-line, pig headed Republicans say this, and actually very few of them believe it. They feel threatened and angry and are striking out verbally. It is awfully sad. We should all be debating and divided by issues and not party.

QUOTE
" I think many of us realize that the democratic line of thinking is many times contrary to the military mission."

Now that is funny!!!!!
Why don't you find out who was president when we entered WW II, and while you are at it you might also want to research Korea, Vietnam and Bosnia.
GOING TO WAR IS AND ALWAYS HAS BEEN A LIBERAL principle! ! !
Conservative principle is to avoid war and use diplomacy instead.

Considering that over 70% of the military is Republican - it is the rare Democrat that served in the military.

Besides, it is not the Republicans who are calling US troops 'torturers' and 'civilian killers.'

That disturbs me greatly as well, though I've never been in the military (too poor eyesight, they said). It also makes me wonder if they're posting here so often, are they or have they ever been in the military themselves, are they high school children who know nothing of real life or are they former military who are just azzholes? I don't know which.
