I received a picture and an 11 paragraph article on how things really are in Iraq, written by one of our soldiers there. His name is Bryant Shurley. Jan. 11, 2007, 2/5 Cav, 1st CB

I am quoting the last paragraph of the letter/article.

"If we leave Iraq now, it will be a failure for democracy. Iran will control Iraq and the end result will be more terrorists attacks on America. The American people don't want soldiers dying over here, but it's better than American civilians dying over there. Do NOT forget 9/11. They will do it again. The moment we loosen our grip on the noose, they will do it again. And the only way to root out evil here is to stop beating around the bush, increase troops and destroy the insurgents once and for all. The Iraqi goverment cannot do this on their own. The Iraqi security forces are inadequate for the task. We are the only ones who can stop al-Sadr."

He knows first hand what he is talking about.

To Olde Salt:

If you re-read the question, you will note that I asked if you credit Pres. Bush with HELPING prevent another 9/11. Surely, everyone knows one man couldn't do this alone!

I completely agree with Shurley. If we pull out now, it's a nightmare waiting to happen.

We do need more troops over there to secure the area once and for all. It's better to send more out now, to get it over with faster. There would be fewer deaths than steadily losing people in a stalemate.

Pure brain washing, lies clumped together and flawed logic!
1 - There was/is no democracy in Iraq.
2 - There is/will be civil war, but this does not necessarily mean that Iran will control Iraq when that war is finished.
3 - Even if Iran were to control Iraq, there is no reason to believe that terrorist attacks on America would increase as a result of Iran controlling Iraq. More likely, terrorist sttacks would increase because Americans did not leave Iraq and mind their own business.
4 - American soldiers dying in Iraq is NOT better than American civilians dying here.
5 - There is no proff they will "do 9/11" again. If there is another large-scale terrorist attack, most likely it would be different than 9/11.
6 - The way to root out evil is not to beat around the Bush but to beat the Bush by putting him in a position where he cannot create any more bad laws or make more bad decisions - IMPEACH!
7 - No purely military solution is going to be possible now. We cannot afford to increase our troop levels to double what they are now, without leaving our people here vulnerable (in case of another major hurricane, etc.)
8 - If we can stop al-Sadr, why haven't we done it so far?

Sure and I credit him for no second Katrina too. You can't go by few letters from soldiers. Soldiers do have very wide range of opinions from refusing to deploy to 'lets finish the job.' It's not a good way to measure how things are by reading 'opinions.' We're really approaching a point where things can become so bad that if we don't leave(even if it means accepting defeat) we can serious damage our military(which many claim is already broken) and damage our ability to defend our nation if real war should break out. Leaving now isn't good idea(very few supports it), but either way can be equally disasterous. No one knows for sure, but everyone knows for sure longer we stay more American lives we lose.

We're asking Iraqis to hustle through what the US did over 200 years in just few months or few years. It's no surprise things aren't going well. We can't go to some remote tribe in Africa and teach them to split atoms overnight and we can't just drop democratic government in the middle of notoriously violent, irrational people. People who made decisions on Iraq policy are blaming everyone else around them, bad CIA intelligence, bad management, not enough troops...etc. It is immoral for them to send US troops there without clear path to victory, gambling with people's lives. They're basically telling troops 'fight harder because we don't know what to do.' That's not right.

And as always our top intelligence officials have confirmed many times al queda only account for small fraction (10~15%) of fighters in Iraq. And one of the reason Iran have become so bold lately is that our military is weakening everyday and they know we won't be able to go to war with them near future. They got so bold that they don't care what anybody says and they'll continue their nuclear program.

I also credit Bush for preventing lightning from striking my head.

I think no matter how many troops you get over there you will find that there will always be more terrorist groups making elaborate plots to attack the U.S. or one of it's allies. I think that Bush is not taking enough steps to insure our security at home. He seems to focused on Iraq with little regard for North Korea, Afghanistan or even Iran for that matter.

There will always be more people waiting in sleeper cells for the right opportunity to attack. Just think about how long it took the terrorists to plan out the attacks on 9/11....

I credit the US Government and its employees (in all areas) with not having any terrorist attacks on U.S. soil since 9/11/01. One man could not do it alone.

THANK YOU! There are not too many people on this site who truly get it. Iran will control Iraq if we leave, most people don't understand that.

I am glad someone on here gets it.
