Seems like I am seeing more out of shape officers out there. Usually not state, but local. I know there are many tallented and buff cops out there, but there are also some really round ones.

Why is this ok? If they are desk cops I would have less of a problem, but these are beat cops - the ones that have to run down the bad guys and fit behind the wheel.

Physical ability is critial and I feel we should have no problems letting these folks off the force 'til they are in shape again. I feel less safe seeing round cops and I would think that fellow officers would demand this of their peirs. Should the unions not demand this for the sake of the other officers they represent? Should we as a public accept this?

Perhaps we can drop yearly pay by $1000 for each lb. they are over their ideal weight and let them make the decision themselves?

Anyone suggets a soln' that prioritizes the function of the police and does not simply protect the job of someone who is no longer fit to work

personally i think the reason they carry waepons it to feel protected and not cool.
i think stronger punishments should be implemented and better security to ensure that there is no need to carry weapons.

Should I fight the ticket? The legal blood alcohol (BAC) limit in my state is .08 and I was below that. I passed all the field sobriety tests, and actually the PAS (field breathalyser) said I was sober, but the officer took me in to the station anyway. I think that is illegal as there was no probable cause. Do you think I should fight the ticket, and possibly sue for false arrest (mental anguish, loss of consortium), as well as failure to medically adress my injuries in an appropriate time fashion. I should have had to go to the ER for a check first, by which time my BAC would have blown zero.
My friend says that, because I totalled the car, and injured myself, that it is now felony DUI. I think that's not ture, because it was my car and my injuries, not someone else's. He says I should take a plea bargain and will get off cheaper and easier. By the way, the incident happened while off roading, so I'm not sure whether the street laws even apply.
Thanks, any help appreciated.

I ask because people who run from the law put people in danger . These high speed chases are dangerous ! So do you think there should be a shoot to kill policy on people who run from the law ?

Obviously it would need some guidelines like - 3 warnings and can only shoot after the man passes 20 blocks - something like that can work . Think of how many lives it would save .

I have a friend who was stopped for speeding. Unfortunately, he had left his driver's license at home. The law officer took him to the county court house (it was already around 1 a.m.) and into a room where another officer was located. A computer search was made for my friends license, and it was verified that he did indeed have a valid driver's license. But he was then made to pay a fine of $240 right on the spot for "speeding and driving without a license on his person". He was then released to go on his way. It is my belief that my friend was defrauded by these "officers of the law". If you know of or have experienced a similar situation, I would like to know more about it (where, when, etc.). Maybe some information can be gathered to enable real lawmen to forstall these "shakedowns".
Thanks,
Aaron Cooper

I'm currently going through a divorce and when my husband and I went to court I told the judge that my husband had an outstanding warrant. I let them know this so that our child would be protected. I didn't want my son put in a bad situation should his father be pulled over and he's with him. They didn't DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT! Then if you call the cops and tell them they also do nothing about it? Last I checked, having a warrant was a crime. Do we just have a LAZY A.S.S. system, or do the police just wait around for them to commit another crime THEN bust them?? Thoughts anyone?

I live in Michigan, I was convicted for uttering and publishing over 10 years ago (making money orders). This is a non-violent feloney, which has been expunged, but I seem to recall someone saying I will never be able to leagaly own a gun. Is this just hand guns, hunting rifels, are antiques included in this, and what about bow and arrow/crossbows?

I stupidly let 2 tracffic tickets work their way into a warrant. It's been a couple of months and I just called about 2-3 weeks ago to find out the status of them. They told me that I had to pay $210 to get them taken care of. I did not have the money then but now I do. I called to make sure that it was still $210 but they told me that it was now in collections. I called collections and now the warrants are $2000+. I asked if there was a payment plan I could do and they told me yes but I would still have the warrants out. Is there anything I can do that will at least take the warrants off now? I'll do payment plans but i need the warrants taken away. Will going to one of those traffic ticket busters work?
