Because for a deterrent to work it must be absolute and timely. The death penalty is neither. You can read more about the death penalty here: http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/FactSheet.pdf

Some people will say "The people put to death never commit a crime again". That is not deterrence. Deterrence means (as I am sure you know) that a person decides not to commit a crime because they are concerned with the consequences.

It does. The people put to death never commit a crime again. The death penalty may not deter the living from committing crimes but it's 100% effective with the condemned.

The Death Penalty would stop criminals but it is not being put to use. The death penalty should go into effect like it did with Suddan Hussein. 30 days and they are out of there.

Because the guy or woman that got the death penalty knows they have years to worry about it and in the meantime, it costs us to house and feed them. They should be kept for a couple of days and then put to death!

Because people sit on death row for decades and most never reach the penalty phase

Because the ACLU and liberal lawyer activists keep suing the government and forcing them to stop executing violent criminals who have raped and murdered.

They do this while openly fighting and advocating for the murder of an innocent child who has not committed even a single sin through unchecked abortion.
