When an officer attempts to conduct a search without probable cause and requires consent to search, is there any difference between a house(owned by you) and an apartment(owned by a third party but rented by you?) Can I refuse consent to search my apartment just as I could my house, or would the owner of the complex, or a representative of that owner, be able to consent for me since it is their property, but it is rented by me? In the same regard, is anything conducted by the search my responsibility? It would serve logic that if the items yielded from the search are my responsibility, consent to search and thus find those items would be at my discretion unless there is probable cause or a warrant. Also, what constitutes probable cause? If 4 teenagers enter an apartment, can an officer say that's probable cause to search because "those teenagers must be smoking weed and drinking" I live in Texas by the way.

I received a ticket for expired tabs and I looked at it today as I want to send it in and get a court date for it as hopefully I can get the charge reduced. Upon looking at it, I realized the officer wrote the wrong date, he wrote a date almost two weeks prior to it happening. Here's my dilemma. I have 15 days from the date of incident to mail the ticket it, well are they going to just look at the ticket and tell me I waited too long or is there another way they can find out the actual date of violation, such as when the officer turned his copy in? Should I write a letter when I mail it in and explain what date it really happened, telling them I did respond within 15 days? Any help would be great.

When I was 16, I skated across a semi-busy street, to catch the bus that was coming early, so I could get home in time.. and right as I was getting on the buss I was stopped by a dick head cop who gave me a damn jaywalking ticket.

I went to court, did the required comm. service, and I thought it was over and done with..

But I went to apply for some apartments last week, and they said there was a misdemeanor on my record, I had no idea what it could have been until I thought back and remembered this..

But I thought this was supposed to be sealed off when I turned 18? I am 20 now...

I called the City Court that issued the ticket and they are now telling me it will be on there for life, WTF?

Any suggestions? I know it's not a big deal, but this may come back to bite me in the as.s some day..

There was a misunderstanding a couple of weeks ago that left bf with a no contact order and want to know how we can resolve this.

We were having a heated verbal arguement on the street in the wee hours of the morning and i stumbled and fell and when he tried to avoid letting me fall we both went down. police showed up at that moment and arrested him with domestic assault. APPARENTLY there was also a witness, but it REALLY wasnt what it must have looked like.

How do we fix this????

I had a friend that was 14 years old at the time and he said he was illegally a police officer. I had my doubts about this from the beginning.....but he kept insisting it was true and he provided me with so much info about it that I felt compelled to believe him.

Then he changes the subject and tells me the job is legal...being that I wanted to Become an FBI Agent, I figured some experience would be beneficial.

I do however suffer form depression form time to time...and he denied me of the job because he said people wit mental probs cant be cops.....i found out that ppl wit mental issues cant legally be denied the job of a cop without a personal psych eval by the police agency. So he was actually breaking the law by denying it to me.

I believed he was lying, but i wanted to confirm it. I contacted the local police and asked them. They laughed at me and said "wut do u think??"

Was he lying about being a cop?

These 2 guys are a corrections officer and a marine - both about 24. I thought they'd be cool. I'm a 33 year old homeowner with my pregnant wife and I'm about to lose my mind with the indifference I've encountered in exploring my options with the police. I was out on their lawn discussing the problem (rather calmly I'm proud to say) with one of them at 2am. They've agreed to keep the noise down (the noise at this point coming from their custom exhaust - buzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!) and have informed me that the party this weekend to celebrate their moving in will not bother us either (wow I really hope not). The police say they cant do anything until they send a car DURING the incident. They won't catch these high pitched exhausts. I want to follow the law here so any responses with "dude, kick some ***" you can keep.. I'm also in a position where that would be extremely detrimental to me. Posting this is one of the myriad ways I'm trying to just shed this excess frustration.

I've been going through the headlines for ideas but everybody just shoots everybody. Boring. I've thought of pushing something heavy off the balcony, poison in the beverage, a banana peel on the stairs. All the usual stuff but I want something different. People have separate rooms but the wannabe murderer has access. It can't be something premeditated that takes a lot of planning because the idea doesn't occur until everyone is already there. Any suggestions.

He now works earning $13.50 an hour. We don't have that kind of money lying around so want to pay by credit card, but since the judge put out a warrant out on him they want cash. We have been dealing with Deputy and the Sheriff in our county and they agree that they (child support case worker) are being very unreasonable. Who can we speak to about this?

I know a man who's son was murdered about 6 years ago. It has been a very very tough 6 years for him! He was cleared as a suspect. But recently he found out that his phone and cell phone are tapped! Why? Why bother this guy if he is no longer a suspect? Why make his life more miserable? To me this shows a lack of respect, a lack of heart, It solves nothing! I man the man is 63 years old! He lost his son! He has no criminal record, and has served his time in the military, and has retired! Can anyone be left alone anymore? I understand there are some law enforcement agencies who do not waste their resorces in this manner. I know there are good cops. But to me this is heartless! I think you leave the guy alone! I think that law enforcement officials who do this kind of thing should face diciplinary action of some type!

Do facilities for forensic investigation like the ones in the show, really exist, or is it just show business? Some Mexican friends would really like to know, and I don´t wish to hurt their feelings, especially when compared to the very limited resources and investigation methods available in their country.
