I got pulled over in New Mexico this weekend for going 88 in a 75. I was only going 85 and yes I was speeding. I have a Radar Detector called a Valentine One. It is a great radar detector and works flawlisly. The problem I have is the detector never went off. The cop can beat the detector by turning his gun on as you drive past instead of keeping it on. That is what he claimed but the detector would have gone off full force and I would have been busted. I asked him and that's what he told me he did. His gun was KA band my detector has KA band nothing new on that. I admitted going 85 that's what I was going not 88. I had to tell him if I wanted to pay the fine or go to court right away. If I wanted to talk to a lawyer it's to late cause I told him I would just pay the fine which he said was $80. As I drove away my wife was reading the ticket and she said the fine is for $88 not a big deal but still not the same as $80. What do you think? Do cops lie about using radar?

How can the British police demand respect from the public when they don't know how to respect the public they serve.
It seems that the police are obviously the cause of many of their own problems.
Having just watched Street Wars on Sky TV, it seems that the Police go out of their way to provoke some situations to massage their own arrest figures.
One episode had a drunk person walking away from a scene at the request of the police, only to be shoved in the back by a copper so hard that he almost stumbles and falls.
When he turns to confront the person who shoved him, the police officer promtly arrests him.
Another episode shows a police officer clearly squaring up to a drunk bloke who is then arrested.
Is this the behavior we should be expecting the tax payers to pay for or are the police getting out of hand when dealing with simple problems instead of concentrating on real crimes such as rape, assult and robbery.

I was issued a NY state speeding ticket for doing 81 in a 65. My plea is not guilty, my court date is on Wednesday and I really would like to get out of this.
I am a college student and this is my first violation.
Please only serious answers, I know speeding is bad and I’ve learned my lesson.

I was daydreaming while snow was beginning to fall...and didn't realize I had pushed harder down on the gas. I don't have cruise control, and was on a deserted highway on my way to work on Saturday morning. I was "zapped" in mid-daydream at 78 in a 65. He did not write down the correct year of my vehicle, and didn't ask me to sign the ticket. He informed me of the court date and if I didn't want to go, I could mail in fine to the address on the back.

I know I am in the wrong, and admit to speeding, but I feel like the whole thing is silly...mostly because I don't have a good reason for the ticket.

The last ticket I received was on Christmas Day 2000 when I was driving 45 in a 65 and hit a patch of black ice and lost control and rolled my car into a ditch. I hit nothing, yet still got a ticket for driving too fast for road conditions...which was a horse load a crap....but anyway.

My mom works at an attorney's office and she's going to check with them about options.

He asked me if I lived in the area. I told him yes. He asked to see my drivers license which I showed him. When asked why he had stopped me though others were around, he said that their had been a lot of breakins in the area and that he had never seen me in the area before (eventhough Ive lived there for 4 years.) Did he have the right to do this?

It has come to my attention a lot of studies out there that prove people who drive fast are safer drivers than those who drive the exact speed limit and slam on their brakes if they see a leaf pass by their window. I know the government brings money in for speeding tickets, but I think its stupid. If our local law enforcement spent as much time and money trying to catch murderers and other dangerous crimes than we would be a lot safer than we are today. I also do not believe a speed limit makes things safer. I know I am going to get extremist answering this question asking me if its okay to do 100 MPH in a school zone, and that is not what I am talking about. 55 MPH on a highway when majority of the people arent even going that slow is stupid. My point is, police need to spend more time catching real criminals, people who speed are not criminals.

I keep seeing them on youtube, and by the looks of it they're mostly american. I guess that has to do with the prevalence of local newstations with helicopters?

What I've been wondering is, when the newscasters describe the chase, they use this dramatic voice when talking about the speed it's going... why? I don't get it... they're usually barely over the 100mph mark... I do that on the local highways when I'm not in a hurry. And when in a hurry, I tend to push it to the 120+ speeds.

Are the speed limits that much lower in the US? Or is it somehow unusual for a car to reach 120? Or is it just more newsworthy to over-dramatize it?

It was about a year ago. My brother, 32 was in the passenger seat. He has never driven in his life as he is slightly brain damaged from birth and unqualified to drive. He and his date were on their way home when my brother decided to snooze for a moment when they were hit by a dude who, while had been drinking, was not over the .08 limit. Well it was determined that it was his fault regardless of his b.a. level. Well, yesterday my brother received a letter from an attourney saying that all of his psychiatric records are being reliessed to the defense. His past has nothing to do with the fact that he was in an accident where he was a passenger and now needs the bills payed for by the insurance company. It seems like maybe the guy doesn't have insurance or somehow wants to draw attention away from the real issue and bring the easy target (my brother) into it. My first thing is, how did they obtain the historical records of him? and, any advice on how to fight this?

Hi, last night I received a criminal citiation for operating a motor vechile with a suspended license. I did not get arrested. It was suspended because of chargeable events on my record. I also need to pay a ticket. I plan on paying the ticket and attending a driver retraining program. Also, 10 years ago I was caught driving with a suspended license. It was continued without a finding. I'm very nervous about this. What is the most likely punishment? I am willing to admit my mistake and pay the fines, do community service etc. I don't want to go to jail though. I'm a good person and have never been arrested.
