I was issued a NY state speeding ticket for doing 81 in a 65. My plea is not guilty, my court date is on Wednesday and I really would like to get out of this.
I am a college student and this is my first violation.
Please only serious answers, I know speeding is bad and I’ve learned my lesson.

There really isn't any way to "get out of it."
If you were speeding then you have no defense.
However, you can plead no contest and ask for traffic school which, upon completion will dismiss the ticket from your record.

did you speed? Then you will not be getting off. Speeding is cut and dry. You either did it or you didn't and the fact you where stopped, means you did. Speed enforcement is a science. there is no getting off. The officer will testify he visually estimated your speed and then confirmed it with the radar or laser. He will say the same thing he has said hundreds of times. You will then give your testimony, for the first time ever, and offer some lame excuse, since you really have no argument, unless you can somehow prove the officer didn't visually estimate you at 81 and then clock you at 81. Not sure how you will do that, though. The judge will then find you guilty, assess a pretty big fine. At that point, you will still not have learned your lesson. You will then pay higher insurance rates for the next 3-4 years. Maybe double since you are young. Hopefully at that point, you will have learned your lesson.

50000 people are killed every year in traffic accidents. Most caused by speeding and other violations.

Your best bet is a meeting with the prosecuting attorney about getting the charge reduced or changed to something that does not appear on your record, or perhaps a defensive driving course in exchange for a dimissal.

If this goes to trial, and you are found guilty, there will not be any room for negotiations, you will probably pay the full value of the ticket.

Don't think you have much luck of getting out of it-only ways are to either somehow prove that you weren't speeding or I believe if the cop doesn't show up in court then you get off

You are asking the question a bit late...you might have been able to attend some paid "remedial driving" classes, and taken evidence of that to court with you. Hopefully you have a good lawyer, otherwise you are cooked...

On what grounds do you propose to "get out of it"?

If you have no defense (i.e., something that will give "reasonable doubt" as to your guilt) then you are probably better off pleading guilty.

You can always try talking to the prosecutor and seeing if you can work something out before the trial...
