I have realised people go to prison for a first offence(even if it is not serious like violence) when they can have the option of a fine, suspended sentence, rehabilitation if drink or drugs played a part, or community service! Shouldnt people only go to prison if they are repeatedly offending after the above options are not a deterent, or convicted of a violent crime where they are a danger to society?

i just learned that 11 sex offenders live within 1000 ft. of my child's daycare. i believe 1000 ft. is the law, at least where i live...indiana. i don't know who to report this to, though? do i just report it to the police, or someone else? and, will they really even do anything? i would hope so, but these losers that aren't worthy of breathing our air are everywhere. they should create a place called "scum island" just for them. anyway, i want them away from the daycare, so please help?

I was behind a "mini" van yesterday and the only kid of the 7 in the van that had its seatbelt on was the baby ... the only reason I even noticed was because the mom was on the cell phone and cut me off without even realizing it. We were doing 45 mph at the time and when I looked through their back window I could see them bouncing all over the place.

What should we do if we see something like that? I mean, it isn't exactly an emergency ... yet. But we all know what a tragedy it will be when (not if, when) eventually the mom gets in a wreck and kids are tossed all over.

I don't want to see her go to jail or anything lol, but someone in authority needs to demand she buckle those kids in!!!

Most of you will have seen on the news about the murder of little Tahla Ikram in West London. The 16 month-old child was abused by his stepmother Sumairia Parveen while his father Abid Ikram did nothing to stop her. After his son's death Abid even arranged for his lover (who is also his cousin) Sumairia to flee to Pakistan. The two have stood trail for the murder and cover-up. It has been reported that the little boy had his limbs twisted and pulled until they broke and was left screaming as the bones ground together. He also had cigarette burns and his leg had been progressively sliced open until the tendons and veins were exposed.
Tahla Ikram died in unimaginable agony,
and what was the jail term given............
NINE YEARS!!!! WHY NOT LONGER?

I was just wondering with all the people that have problems and break laws due to behavioral disorders etc...when they're sent to a correction facility (is there only one kind?). Do they get corrected and how?

In Toronto is there some sort of bylaw or legality that dictates when you are in a parking lot you must park in the clearly designated spots properly in between the painted yellow lines or is that just common courtesy? Sometimes drivers make their own spot or take up 2 spots but we've all paid the entrance fee into the parking lot so legally does it matter? It's bad manners at worst but is that breaking the law too?

Within the past 3 weeks, I receive 2 tickets. One for going 80 in a 65 and 60 in a 30. For the 1st situation, I had to drop my sister off to school. Took the highway, went w/ the flow of traffic on cruise control at 80, & all of a sudden I see the state trooper. I slowed down but I saw the cop pull out & put his lights on. He told me I was speeding 80 in a 65, I told him that I was going with the flow of traffic & I was in a hurry to drop my sister off. Didn't matter to him, gave me the ticket for speeding & no insurance, because I didn't have the insurance card with me. Next situation, just dropped my sister off to her ballet, driving home on one of the main roads going with the flow of traffic, 40-45 in a 30, All of a sudden I see a cop car trailing me, no lights yet. I turned on one of the streets and went to another main road 1/2 mi away, & then he put his lights on. The cop told me I was going 60-30, and I told him that the most I was going is 45 due to flow of traffic....

I'm 18. 2wks ago me and my friend made the mistake of going in a middle school via a construction door that was left open. we walked around for awhile and saw a computer laying out and not thinking decided to take it.

yesterday, 3 policeman came to my house and said they knew i had the computer so I immediately led them to it unplugged it for them and gave them all the packaging. They were friendly and told me I was very cooperative and seemed like a nice guy and that in a week i was going to have to stop by the police dept for fingerprinting etc and to post bail and i would eventually have to show up in court and get probation.

--BTW this is my first offense ever. So what I want to know is if anybody knows a ballpark of how much bail i will have to post, what the probation is like, and if this goes on my permanent record and if so is there any way i can get it removed. any stories of similar experiences and the outcomes would be great. really, anything helps. i am nervous as hell.

I am majoring in law enforcement at college right now. I am thinking of changing it to nursing, and try to get a minor in law enforcement. I like the investigator part of law. But I was wondering if there is any jobs where the law, and the medical field intwine together. I mean I could look around. But any ideas where to start looking be great. Thanks for any tips. Have a good one.

when i was in high school I stole an mp3 player. I was sitting in class one day and the guy sitting behind me had an mp3 player. to annoy me he put the headphones up to the back of my head and turned up the volume. so the next day as we were leaving class I swiped it when no one was looking. a few days later he realized that it was me that took it and confronted me. I gave it back to avoid getting in trouble.
so will this disqualify me when I take the polygraph test?
And would it be any diffrent if I join sheriff or highway patrol?
