Imagine you are given a choice: Plead guilty to a crime you didn't commit and receive a sentence of four or so years, or take a chance with a jury and receive "25 years to life." In addition, imagine that you are an African-American or Hispanic and you will most likely have an all white jury in Orange County or San Diego County or some other well-known conservative place and a person has said they saw you at the crime scene (the person identified you in a photo presented by the police), or there is other shaky evidence that can be used against you (an informant will be getting immunity or a lesser sentence for testifying against you). What would you plead?

i don't understand this article. why can't you just plead innocent when you know you are? can someone help?

I was attacked by a stranger in a parking lot. He threatened me with a knife to stop fighting him and he was groping me. He didn't penetrate me with his penis...but he did penetrate me with his fingers/hand. It was very painful and he was really rough with me. I have some tearing down there and I'm a little worried that he damaged something. I finally got the courage to press my alarm beeper on my key ring and my car alarm went off really loud at this point. He got scared away and wasn't able to actually "rape" me. Is what happened to me still rape? Or is it just sexual assault? I've only told my boyfriend but I still haven't told him all the gory details. I don't know if I can classify what happened as rape? I looked stuff up on the internet but most cites just classify rape as "unwilling penetration" - does it matter if it's just his hand? Sorry if this is too much info - I just really don't know what to think. Please help!

I'm not advocating or anything, but isn't it hypocritical to arrest someone for paying someone else for sex? I mean if I pay someone to have sex with me (no i've never tried), then I could get arrested. But if I pay someone to have sex with me, film it and sell the film than that is ok?

Where is the line drawn? If I filmed it for porn, but didn't sell any copies would it now be considered prostitution?

Is there a website that I could look up federal cases? (For Rock Island Illinois) If you are familiar with judici.com you can type in the name of the person you looking for and see the information. Is there something like that for federal courts?

You're standing near the US-Canada border in the US and shoot someone in Canada. They died.

Will you be charged in the US, where no one died; or in Canada where you never entered the country?

We are selling our business and are signing a contract to purchase. If the buyer drops out of buying, or offers us a lower amount than stated in the contract do they owe us any money or does the mutual indemnity clause keep us from getting any recovery? We are wondering since we are basically givin up our location, clients, etc. and the cost to recover all of that is pretty high.

In the Governor's brief, filed by his team of lawyers, Schwarzenegger says, "The Administration submits that use of the words 'marry' and 'marriage' is not required by the California Constitution. Thus, the name of the legal
relationship now known as 'marriage' could be changed."

Schwarzenegger's brief states: ". . . except for the ability to choose and declare one's life partner in a reciprocal commitment of mutual support, any of the statutory rights and obligations that are afforded to married couples in California could be abrogated or eliminated by the Legislature or the electorate for any rational legislative purpose."

I believe this is a preemptive step being taken to convolute any federally mandated abolition of homosexual union.
Your thoughts?

He never asks a question that can be answered yes or no. Do you still beat your wife? Yes or No? You know the answer to every poll before it is taken. He words them in a manner that no one who disagrees with him would bother to answer his question. Also, why does he ask people on his program and then interrupt them every time they try to express a thought?

Most of the time people take a plea to a misdemeanor (for a LESSER Charge) because they dont want to spend a year traveling back and forth to court spending thousands of dollars on a lawyer and lost wages.
Some people even know the dirty tricks that prosecutor and judges use to get a conviction and sentence regardless of what the jury decides (jury nulification). Defense lawyers want it overwith quickly because felonies is where the real money is, and theyre ussually handling 3, 4 or more cases at the same time. How do you expect a single individual go up against the power of the DA office with their million dollar budget and vested interest in seeing you lose and have a chance?

ok i have been living her for almost 2months. we moved in in the middle of july, and we were supposed to get the first month free, but the manager said that we had to pay for the 2 weeks on the 1st of august. We were like what? i mean we had just moved here from las vegas and barely started our jobs, we were kind of out of money. No one got paid until the 15th of augs. we some how got the money together, but it was like a week late. Anyway the manager made up these rules about our kids not allowed to play outside, without an adult. we ignored it and got a lease violation. Today the kids came home from school and my sister was outside getting them from the bus. they were still out side and she went to go check the mail, the kids still in sight. Some one called the office and said that the kids threw a rock and broke a window. my sister went to the office and was like hey i have been out here with them and they didnt do it. there was also an issue with the company vehicle

Idaho Sen. Larry Craig's arrest stemming from lewd conduct in a Minneapolis airport bathroom.
Some people say a police sting is set up to catch people on purpose.
To me they wouldn’t be catching people if they weren’t doing it!
I would say a sting is unfair entrapment if the police officer (plainclothes) initiated contact and did things to encourage continued contact by the subject. However if the police officer did not initiate or encourage continued contact. I think the officer was doing his/her job for a reported problem. I don’t think that would be leading anyone on!
Isn’t it better for a police officer to arrest someone doing that (as long as they did not initiate or lead the other person on. Or maybe some people would prefer instead of a police officer, a 10 or 12 year old boy in the next stall!
I can’t imagine any parent (unless they were a child molester themselves) wanting that. Or anyone (except a child molester) wanting that to be the case.
I have read some that talked about foot tapping and like that. I am sure the officer could tell the difference in whether it was accidental or on purpose. From what I have read it wasn’t just foot tapping or brushing a foot in the next stall, there were several very convincing actions for the police officer to come to the conclusion.
All I can say to that police officer, “Thank-you very much for trying to make our public bathrooms safer for OUR CHILDREN! Thank-You Very Much!!!
Maybe the Idaho Senator (Larry Craig) isn’t gay, however some people that say they are STRAIGHT like to be ‘serviced’ by gay people. In a public bathroom is very low for someone that ‘services’ or ‘gets serviced’! Like I read one post... GET A ROOM, and there are many other ways to connect (besides public restrooms, parks, etc.)
That’s the way I feel!!!
