It has specific valid uses, but is often way over-used and often abused for political purposes.

In any society based on common activities, there is a need for the govt to have certain resources -- eminent domain allows the govt to claim land as needed for public benefit. And it's explicitly allowed by the Constitution (Takings Clause, 5th Amend).

However, that doesn't mean cities and states should abuse the power just because they can.

I think it is necessary but should be strictly restricted. No takings shall be so another individual or entity can develop it. It should only be for the government. If a developer wants it, they can pay the price for it.

Too many city and state governments are using eminent domain as a way to pay back their developer buddies who donated to their campaigns.

In it's original context, it has it's place in an effort to benefit the entire community. However, when it is abused as it has been lately, it is worse than communism. At least the communists didn't try to hide it.

It is a very very sad situation for everyone except the developer. Protest it every chance you get.

I think it is ridiculous, Gov. Officials need to leave well enough alone, worry about there own and not things that don't belong to them.
