Violent drunks are not themselves. Not to be mean or anything, but drunks are dangerously stupid. Their thoughts are slow, they don't process what they perceive very well, and their concentration is poor.

If you have to deal with them, direct them like children, and be very clear and distinct. Use small words. Be specific. Say things only once before delivering consequences--absolutely no second chances, or hesitation. If you hesitate, they will have control. You do not want an impaired person in control.

Here's an example of something you might say:

"You are drunk and scaring me. If you come within six feet of me, I'm going to:

* use my stun gun to stop you.
* pepper spray you directly in the eyes.
* dial 911 and have you removed from this house.

A "somewhat violent drunk" will undoubtedly get worse without consequences from somewhere. They're getting away with it, so they do it. They can't be reformed when they are impaired, but they can meet with the consequences of their actions.

Take legal action, let him be violent towards a cop and see what happens.

Also, take a few beatings then call the police, by the second or third time they will have the law shoved so far up their @ss they wont have time to think about drinking (nor the means to).

Also, find a new spouse. There are PLENTY around that are sober :)

no something?i really rather be hated by a few then take a beating from a drunk,,i did drink 4bout40yrs,off & on, in the last more on then off, theres is not a thing ,one ,in alochol, that can make you violent, people use it to cover up cowardice, anybody can beat up a weaker person, does that make him bad",,just call the law and be done with it and him <>IS<>

Just call the cops. Hopefully waking up in the drunk tank will scare him enough to dry out.

Push him out a window and then call the police and say that a drunk person fell out the window.

There is no such thing as "somewhat violent" and I urge you to rephrase the question, so I may be of service to you.

If by somewhat violent you mean they have actually committed a crime such as assault or battery, call the police.

why would you want to handle a drunk ? that is not your problem! this is how you handle it , you walk away for good,do not talk to that person until he/she get help ,and express that as you walk away !!!

You can't 'handle' someone in that condition.
Have the police pick him/her up, then when he's sober offer for him/her to go to counseling sessions with you. S/he needs help.
(I'm guessing this is your mate or partner)
