The original purpose of the Social Secuirty Act was:

(a) To counter the effects of the Great Depression
(b) To counter the effects of World War Two
(c) A & B
(d) None of the above

I say its "C" because wasn't World War Two also considered the "Great Depression"?

TIA

This way, kids can't get around it. Not even with proxies. Thank godness, this generation is filled with lazy kids anyway. That's why America's kids are obese. It was totally different when I was a kid. Any thoughts?

well i have been going through a custody fight and a divorce for two years now and I just filed a contempt of court for my in-laws who have primary care custody of the children and they have refused to give me the visistation stated in our order. well i was wondering what would happen to them if they are refusing to let me have my visitation will they lose custody, will it be changed or will I just get an i'm sorry from the judge and it will go back to the way it was?

Hi...

Situation is this...

I have a signed agreement with an individual dating back to OCT 2005. He lives in California, I live in Chicago. I gave him $15,000 which was really a loan vs. "investment"; however, I assume that it WOULD be an investment as he promised "100% return" backed up by his own inheritance "within 60 to 90 days" of the signed agreement. Obviously, that should have come to pass long ago. To date (5/16/07), I have been repaid $13,000 of my original $15,000. At an absolute minimum, I am owed my remaining $2,000 PLUS $15,000 PLUS EXTRA for over 1 1/2 years of calls, emails, lies, suffering, broken promises, etc. - AND extra if I need to get an attorney for this, which I am not quite sure of at the moment.

I have been told that with my agreement, it's "open and shut", and that I can file a judgement myself against this person / entity. I can? Without legal representation? When I live in Chicago and he/the entity out of California?

Thanks!!

I beleive if you have been found not guilty in criminal court you should not be allowed to sue in a civil court. If they want to sue you in civil court they should sue you there first, them a criminal case should be tried no matter what the outcome of the civil case. Anyone agree? I'm sure plenty disagree.

Alberto Gonzales' original claim to fame is that he got GW out of Jury duty, while he was governor. Although Jury duty is a bother, it is still our civic duty as a U. S. citizen. So should we be surprised? Also, let's be reasonable, if the Governor of any state shows up for Jury duty in the state he governs, he would probably be released anyway, even in Texas.

Here's the deal: a person (age 27) is arrested for possession of marijuana. He is sentenced to 18 months probation. During that time, he is ordered to stay drug-free. But he continues to socialize with the same group of friends he had before, most of whom smoke pot themselves. They frequently offer it to him, knowing full well that he is on probation.

He refuses it for quite a while, but finally the temptation is too much, and he starts smoking pot regularly. Before long, he is arrested for probation violation and is jailed.

My question: is it fair to be mad at his friends at all? I understand it's his sole legal esponsibility to say no, of course. But I also think it's not cool for them to offer marijuana to him when they know he's on probation. When I asked them not to offer it to him, they got angry with me and said it's none of my business, that it's his choice to smoke. But I said if they offer it, they ARE pushing him to make the wrong choice. True or not?

Today top law enforcement officers from eight states on Monday asked MySpace.com to turn over the names of REGISTERED SEX OFFENDERS who use the social networking Web site.

From the Rocky Mountain Telegram:

..."I am deeply disappointed and troubled by this unreasonable and unfounded rejection of our request for critical information about convicted sex offenders whose profiles are on MySpace," Blumenthal said. "By refusing this information, MySpace is precluding effective enforcement of parole and probation restrictions that safeguard society."

These are for CONVICTED sex offenders, not suspected.

Who do you think is right? The Attorney Generals whose job it is to protect our children? Or MySpace whose job it is, well to make money?

What protections should we extend to our FELONS? Do we owe the same protection to our children? More protection?

MySpace has hired a team of security officers to patrol their network to fish out over 600,000 child predators that use the site. However, the ACLU is planning to sue MySpace for violating the privacy of the child predators, saying that their use of the site is legal and protected by the First Amendment.

What do you think: should preying on children be a Constitutionally protected right that all child molesters can enjoy, or should the ACLU back off and put the interests of children ahead of putting money in its lawyers' pockets?

Source: I read about this in my city newspaper. If I can find a similar story online I will be sure to post it here.

I have notified at least 1000 Ford owners in my database and found 85% agree and will do likewise.
