I am 51, my (girlfriend) is 49... She is a widow, her husband was a good father and husband, and worked in a steel mill in Gary for 25 yrs before he retired at 43... At 45,he was attacked and killed trying to defend a girl who was being beat up by her boyfriend during a new years-eve party at their house.Less than two years later, she is diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, but to despite all odds, survives...Five years later, we become romantically involved, and decide to live together. We would love more than anything to be legally married, but face too many penalties for this to be possible... She would lose her husbands pension, which after escalating insurance costs is only about $350 a month... She is currently paying about $250 a month for continued coverage, but with a $1500 deductable... which means she is doing without most coverage, unless it is emergency situations, even though she is paying $250 a month for coverage.... Why is this ????

My ex beat me up on several occassions. During the last incident I bit him to get him to release me. He left the apartment. I called his father to come sit at the apartment with me incase he came back. He called the cops a few days later and they put a warant out on me. I turned myself in. He bailed me out. I got a full order of protection from him. He brought the charge back up when he realised I wasn't going back to him.
I was just informed I am going to trial for "attempt to inflict bodily harm." I face 6 months for defending myself. Can I sopenea his father? What can I do? If I go to jail I will lose my children to him. What am I looking at as far as punishment? I am really scared. I have never been in any kind of trouble like this.

If your children are not in your home and dont live in your home, and you don't have custody and your case is in jessamine county but a social worker from barren county was only court ordered to do a home evaluation and passed your evaluation that your home was up to par for the children can they then call the police and send them in on a drug raid? If someone in the home had drugs that were found by the police but the police never took them to jail or charged them were they just looking for the childrens case or are they later going to pick the person up? It's been a week since this happened and the police have not contacted them?

I work for a Local Government,(City), and they have been trying out a thing called MOU,Memorandum of Understanding, with some of the other Departments in the City. One of those Departments have workers with the same job title and job functions as I do. Those employee's were given salary increases, but employee's at my facility did not receive increases. We have been told for ten years now that we would have our chance to participate as well. We still haven't! Is it illegal for the employer to give raises to some employee's but not others, even though we have the same titles and do the same jobs?

The government has banned many substances that it claims are "dangerous" and "damaging", yet is it morally correct that they should control our intake of substances? Also, when I say intake I don't just mean what we aren't allowed to eat, I mean what we are ENCOURAGED to eat. For example, Monosodium glutamate is a common food additive which is highly damaging to one's body and mind. It is considered by scientists to be a neurotoxin, not unlike MDMA (or Ecstasy). Despite the studies that prove the toxicity of MSG, the FDA has chosen not only to allow the use of monosodium glutamate food, but has encouraged use under a variety of names to hide its presence in many food products. Such names include glutamic acid, hydrolyzed protein, autolyzed protein, textured protein, yeast extract, and many more. Yet there are other substances which have been proven to be safe, in relative terms, based on various scientific and medical studies which are regulated with great zeal (such as cannabis).

A friend of mine was found guilty today of a 4th degree felony. The judged ordered that he be allowed to work, and only spend his nights and weekends in the local jail, for no more than 9 months. He gave him until Friday to work it out.

Does that mean he will kee his current job, or will he get one of the pulling weeds type jobs?

In New Mexico by the way.

A few years back I worked at a company called the Southern California Organ Procurement Center, which handled organ donation for the L.A. area. A few months after I started they changed their name to "OneLegacy" with the idea that "we all have one life, in which to give one gift, and leave one legacy". Being a lifelong believer in reincarnation, I found this whole one-one-one deal a little offensive. I shared my feelings with senior management and asked them to change the name but they refused. Eventually I had a breakdown over the issue and was terminated for not showing up. So my question is, given the significant mental stress I incurred over the issue and the morality of earning a living at a place that insulted my most cherished spiritual beliefs, would there be any kind of a merit for a wrongful termination, civil rights violent, mental anguish, etc?
