Yes, the only reason that is is because the insurance industry lobbied for it.

i wear my seatbelt because i know that it increases my chances of surviving a crash, not because its the law. but you know that if your in an accident the first thing your going to do is sue the insurance company to pay for you bills because you were to stupid to wear your seat belt and minimize your injuries, causing the insurance companys to pass on the debt to us.

The government slowly conditions people to believe in their ****. For ex., take smoking. 10 years ago people were pissed about being told they can't smoke. Now, they all accept it. Global warming - same thing. Personally, I hate being told what to do because mothers have no control over their little mistakes (kids.) Can't do heroin, coke, drink and drive, etc. ******* people **** up everything. Rose colored glasses my friend.

Ofcourse it should be against the law. How would you feel if one of your close relations got into a bad car accident and died from it , because they werent wearing their seatbelt? You would be angry. Sometimes the goverment actually does something smart.

Any law intended to protect me from myself is UNCONSTITUTIONAL. I place social security and welfare in that category. Unfortunately, more than half of the current Federal government fits as well.

The government can not, and does not FORCE you to wear a seat belt. You have the options of riding a bicycle, or walking. If however you wish to enjoy the PRIVILEGE of riding in an automobile, a seat belt will keep your face out of the windshield. I don't think it is fair of people to ask paramedics to pry their faces out of safety glass.
