because (before prohibition) alcohol companies lobbied in congress complaining about lost profits, they tied it in with illegal immigration, and got it banned.
why did it take an amendment to outlaw alcohol, but just an act of congress to make marijuana illegal?
i think the alcohol lobby still has a lot of pull in congress.
nancy pelosi's biggest backer is a winery.

it turns users into couch potatoes, fogs judgment, impairs motor skills and has serious side effects that after extended use often relegate its users to the sidelines of life, where they can be heard repeatedly murmuring, duhhhhhh.

to many people in high place are making to much money off it .......right now ,because of its illegal status...it is a "closed market" which keeps the profits high....legalizing it would mean they would lose their enormous profits ..so...don't look for law makers in the near future to legalize it.....
